Timothy's Coffee Cinnamon Pastry K-Cup

First to recommend

Description

"Cinnamon Pastry?" you say? Oh yes, Cinnamon Pastry. Mmmm mmmm good. I was skeptical, I'm not a big cinnamon fan and I certainly wouldn't think it would work with coffee. But, like chocolate and peanut butter, this just works.

When you brew it, the smell is DIVINE. It smells like some little Keebler Elf snuck into your kitchen and made some cinnamon buns. Sweet, cinnamony, good. The taste doesn't quite match up with the smell. But thats a good thing, as I think it'd be too sweet if it did. Instead, its a spicy but not smack-you-in-the-face spicy cup. Its medium roast, and delicious. Timothy's says its one of their most popular coffees in the store. I can see why. Try it. Yum.

Dagoba Organic Chai Milk Chocolate Bar

First to recommend

Description

HOLY MOLY! This is HEAVEN in a stick. I'm normally a dark chocolate girl, but a friend bought me a bar of this as a thank you (what can I say, I've got great friends!) and I was blown away. The mix of teeny little bits of crystallized ginger and spices in this chocolate bar are out of this world, and the milk chocolate is amazing quality and smooth as butter - no waxy cheap chocolate here. SO GOOD!

Dagoba Xocolatl Hot Chocolate

Description

If you've never had hot chocolate with chilies before, you haven't lived. Sounds gross, but is truly delicious. Those Mayans knew their stuff. I make my own version at home, but I've had Dagoba's too and its divine. I'd buy it if I could find it around me somewhere and not inhale it all at once....

I love this roast. No bitterness, just a flavourful, fresh cup. (Sorry, I'm not down with all the fancy coffee lingo). I love this cup, yum yum.

Keurig one cup coffee makers

Description

This little baby is my new best friend. I have a bit of a coffee habit, not too many cups a day but I have to have at least one and it has to be GOOD. My boyfriend got one of these for Christmas and we're going crazy over it. We used to spend $7 a day on coffee at the shop, now we spend less than a dollar a day for the same amount, and arguably better coffee.
The machine is idiotproof, turn it on, wait for the water to heat up about a minute (they say leave it turned on and the water is always hot, but we're power savers) and then pop in a K-Cup (a little plastic cup filled with your coffee) and press the size you want (small, medium or large, essentially). Then 45 seconds later, your coffee is done. But this is seriously good coffee, nothing at all like instant.
Some other great features are that there is absolutely NOTHING to clean, except I could see eventually you'd want to clean out the water tank if you get hard water deposits. You can also buy a special attachment for the machine in which you can put your own grounds, if you have a specific brand of coffee that you like, or if you're trying to keep your costs down (each K-Cup, which makes one cup of coffee is about $0.50). You can also make tea (which I haven't tried... conventional tea is easy enough and I'm not a big fan anyways) and cocoa, which is really tasty.
My only two concerns are first, the amount of packaging that you go through everyday. its not huge, especially compared to a take out coffee cup and disposable everything you find at starbucks and such. When the coffee is done brewing, I rip off the foil lid and discard it, toss the grounds into my compost, rip out the teabag-like liner and compost it as well, then throw the little plastic cup into the recycling. I feel a bit better about myself. The second is that in my area, I can only find the "K-Cups" at one store, and they only sell four kinds. Fortunately, they're all super good kinds. I've also found websites that sell them for the same price and will ship for free if you order four boxes or more (18 cups to a box) so thats fine. There are over 200 different coffees you can order, so you'll never run out of options!
Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend investing in this if you like coffee and want to save money. It will pay for itself within the first couple of months and will make you very, very happy. And very, very caffeinated!

'Til Debt Do Us Part Life Planner

First to recommend

Description

This is an amazing book by an amazing lady. It is a day planner that is focused on financial issues and is specially designed by the author, Gail Vaz Oxlade (www.gailvazoxlade.com - she's also got a GREAT blog) , to be a partner for her show, 'Til Debt Do Us Part. (I'll admit my addiction to this show now, I have learned alot of great financial advice as well as getting a kick out of the couples that she reforms on the show). Gail has several systems she's designed to make financial management accessible and really helps you reign in your spending and focus on the goals that you set, whatever they may be.

Each month of this book starts with a net worth calculation, some helpful tips, an expense tracking chart, and more. I can't say enough good things about this book, I've already managed to track my spending and by following some of the tips, save $250 in my first week! Don't believe me? I opened a tax free savings account and contributed to it, checked my banking plan and realized I could save a bunch with a few changes, and transfered credit card balances to a lower interest card (with a solid plan for debt repayment).

If you like money, get this book.

PS Her show and blog does have a Canadian focus, but nothing too drastic - the commonsense tips work anywhere. In fact, I think the book manages to avoid any advice which wouldn't be appropriate for Americans too.

Juice Organics Nourishing and Brightening Cleansers

Description

While I don't have particularly sensitive skin, I have always found that skin cleansers leave my skin a little tight after using them. In my efforts to get away from synthetic chemicals, I found Juice Beauty and picked up their cleanser at Shoppers Drug Mart. This stuff is AMAZING. Not only does it work great, it leaves my skin soft and yet clean, and has cleared up my skin, which only occasionally got blemishes before, but I haven't had one in months!!!!

Tarte Lash Hugger Natural Eco-Friendly Mascara

First to recommend

Description

This mascara is amazing. I have been hunting for a more natural or organic based mascara for a while and this was one of the only ones on the Sephora website. I gulped and splashed out $26 CDN for it, but hey, the environment and my health are worth it, right?

This mascara is paraben, phthalate, sulfate, mineral oil, propylene glycol, fragrance and sythetic dye free. If you don't know what those things are, basically they are things that have been linked to all kinds of health problems that you don't want to have.

Plus the ingredients are naturally derived, things with names that you can pronounce, like olives and water. And the tube is made out of recycled aluminum and is super cute too.

Oh, and most importantly, it goes on beautifully! Its absolutely clump free, and very natural looking. It only comes in one colour, which is a very dark brown I believe. I can't say enough about this... for an eco-friendly product its gorgeous! Splurge! I've given you enough good excuses!
