About this list:

I have not taken an actual, physical vacation since before my son was born. Really. But my wanderlust remains as strong as ever. And, now, thanks to the myriad of websites that provide pictures, planning resources, travel guides and direct contact with tour companies all over the globe, getting away from it all is just a mouse click away.

Qualifications:

A gypsy in my soul, I have a few hair-raising travel tales.

WWF Travel: Costa Rica for Families

First to recommend

Description

It may seem like quite a leap to forgo the holiday hoopla in favor of a trip to Latin America, but you can always explain to families and friend that this is an educational experience. Which it is. But it is so much more, including sight seeing, canoeing, snorkeling and some well-deserved relaxing. Good group gifting.

Hotel on Rivington - The Penthouse Suite

First to recommend

Description

A tropical escape to Manhattan . . . who knew I only had to navigate the Lincoln Tunnel in order to access a well-situated jacuzzi and accompanying shower ? You do have to reserve the penthouse suite in order to take advantage of these dazzling, open-air amenities, yet a trip to my nearest island would save me considerable time and airfare. Tempting.
