The Hobbit (Collector's Edition)

Description

The book that got me hooked on fantasy. My dad read this to me at night and it is hands down one of my all-time favorites. Do yourself a favor and read it before the movie comes out.

Harriet the Spy, Louise Fitzhugh

Description

This book singlehandedly made sure that I kept my diary under lock and key - nobody was going to read all the secrects and gossip I had compiled! Make yourself a tomato sandwich, pick up Harriet the Spy, and settle in for a night of reading.

My Side of the Mountain

Description

Every kid probably thinks about running away and living on their own, but in this book the kid actually does it - carving out a little home in a tree in the middle of the woods. Survival porn at its best.

A classic book about giving and love that usually makes me tear up when I read it. Great illustrations by Shel Silverstein as well. Love this book.

Where the Sidewalk Ends 30th Anniversary Edition: Poems and Drawings: Shel Silverstein: Books

Description

I need to buy this because my old copy is falling apart from too much use. I usually can't stand to read anything vaguely resembling poetry but I love all of Shel Silverstein's work. Perfect mix of whimsy and humor.

Watch the caterpillar eat his way through each page of this great illustrated book and eventually become a butterfly. Another fab classic that each child should have.

Dune, 40th Anniversary Edition (Dune Chronicles, Book 1) by Frank Herbert

Description

*He gives water to the dead* *For he IS the Kwisatz Haderach* I could go on and on with the quotes, but that is only appreciated by those that have already read this great book. If you haven't picked it up yet, please do. Frank Herbet created a sci fi masterpiece with this book and you'll be an instant convert.

Description

This is a children's classic that is almost guaranteed to put your little one to sleep. I like to give this at baby showers to properly start off the new kid's library.
