World Tee Party - a list by hanahula

About this list:

We all struggle to express ourselves, to be heard and, more importantly, to be understood. It's human. It's universal. Particularly in my lifetime, the humble tee shirt has become a way to personalize our message. More recently, it's become a way to support a cause or proclaim our affiliations. Fighting Aids in Africa. Professing our undying love for a particular band. Battling against bigotry. Reviving the art of Andy Warhol. We all seem to know the language of the tee.

Qualifications:

I own at least a hundred tees, all somehow expressing me.

My Hero Long Sleeve T-Shirt

First to recommend

Description

Yes, Aristotle really is my hero. Despite my philosophical background, I just never knew he was a lover of art. Fun and elucidating, this is the tee for me.

The romantic details of this shirt have me swooning . . . I would love to wear this for Valentine's Day with a high-waisted skirt but it would look just as charming with a pair of jeans. By random nicole. (via random nicole)

Botanica Tee

First to recommend

Description

A very subtle sunflower design graces the front and back of this soft green tee, creating an illusion of 3-dimensional flowers. Cool and comfy, this tee could also be worn under a sweater or jacket for work.

First to recommend

Description

A comfortable, charismatic top that has the femininity of a blouse and the length of a tunic. Wear it under a blazer and over a skirt for work, as a cover-up at the beach or over a pair of leggings for just kicking around town.

What Comes Around Goes Around Vintage Rock T-Shirts

2 people recommended this item

Description

If you are lucky enough to get tickets to a rock concert, perhaps you are lucky enough. But that doesn't mean that you won't lust after the latest and greatest images of your favorite band or singer . . . and pay a small fortune to get one or two. Little did you realize, you were actually collecting art when you made your purchase . . . and you just may find a few tee shirts that you already own within the pages of this fascinating book.

Retrospective Tee

First to recommend

Description

I still remember the first time I watched MTV. In fact, the song "Video Killed The Radio Star" is burned in my memory as the song that changed my life. Although the song isn't one that I hear very much anymore, it was followed by more songs and videos and everlasting images of Madonna, Duran Duran, Crowded House, Pat Benatar, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music . . . and I could go on, but I am sure you have your own list. Well, this tee shirt recalls that time in my life, and the beginning of my awareness of the big wide world of music. (Sigh.)

Duke University: Sustainable Duke T-Shirt

First to recommend

Description

The right shirt, right now, for so many reasons: it's blue, it's green and it's Duke. More about sustainability than three-point shots, this will be my go-to tee for the month of March as well as for Earth Day 2008. (via Duke University)

Prickly Phlox Tank

First to recommend

Description

Some tee shirts are so beautifully designed it seems almost heretical to simply call it a tee. But from humble cotton tee it began, and so I respect its roots. This is one such tee, bearing an entire phalanx of phlox on its striped background and screaming "Wear me !"
