Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Hearts Of Oak

First to recommend

Description

On the website, they have a quote up from Ted Leo: "I consider myself a perpetual English major, but I also get into bar fights." Which reminded me that Paul Simonon once said that the Clash was the soundtrack to a punch-up. Ted Leo has the punk ideals, and plenty of the politics, but goes a bit pop-ier in the delivery. Although, "Ballad of the Sin Eater" could be good punk in its prime.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Shake The Sheets

First to recommend

Description

I think this is probably the catchiest Ted Leo & The Pharmacists album, if that's possible. These guys write some horribly catchy pop music, but this is definitely some of the best. "Me & Mia" starts off the batch and the energy just doesn't let up for the rest of the 11 song set. Just about every song on this album is incredibly hooky and infectious.

Pharmacists & Ted Leo - Sharkbite Sessions

First to recommend

Description

A nice 3 song EP from Ted Leo and co, with one original, "Loyal to My Sorrowful Country", and two covers, "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" by Split Enz (both of which are available on the EP Tell Balgeary, Balgury is Dead) and "Suspect Device" by Stiff Little Fingers. It's a very politically minded EP, all the songs definitely have an agenda to them, but this has never been a band to shy away from having a position to stand behind.

Pharmacists & Ted Leo - The Tyranny of Distance

First to recommend

Description

Ever had a band you liked alright, but then you see them live and feel the sudden need to get every album they ever made because they are ten kinds of awesome? That's my current feeling about Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. So if you like this album, and you should, because it's got some super-great songs on it, like "Under the Hedge", and "Timorous Me" (two of my all-time fav of their songs), you need to go see them live so you can fully appreciate how amazing they really are. But if that's not an option, than sit down and revel in this album, and Shake the Sheets, and be happy that you have such great taste in music.

Elephant Shell: Tokyo Police Club

Tokyo Police Club's first full length record. Indie kids done good and made a good solid follow-up to their uber-catchy EP. As hooky as the original, and full of energy.

Living With the Living by Ted Leo & The Pharmacists

This album's been out for a while, but it's creeped onto my all time great summer album list. Ted Leo makes absolutely great pop music, upbeat and catchy with great bass lines to boot.

Accelerate: R.E.M.

First to recommend

Description

They're ba-ack. After the disappointing "Around the Sun" I was slightly leery of Accelerate, not getting my hopes too high. But all the plaudits from the magazines are well deserved. This is a rockin' album, full of energy and driving songs. They might not have quite recaptured their youth, but they're revitalized and kicking out some great tunes

Description

There are some albums that you love right off the bat, and then there are the ones that take a little while to creep in, but when they do, they send hooks straight into your soul. This is one of the later albums for me. Full of organs and post-apocalyptic dread, it's not the lightest of albums around, but it's amazing. Must be played loudly over really good speakers to get the full effect.

Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs

First to recommend

Description

Juno's sountrack was a great collection of sweet indie songs. Mostly upbeat and a bit twee, but amazing, sometimes sparse and cool. Here are 15 more tracks, many from the same artists, that round out what would have been the ultimate Juno playlist. It's like the best mixtape from a cool friend you never had.
