Ramones: It's Alive 1974-1996

Description
Hey! Ho! Let's Go!
You have to love the Ramones. Catchy songs with three chords or less. The debate still rages over whether or not they invented punk, but their influence is undeniable. Capturing more than 30 live performances over 22 years. (via Very Short List)

Juno Movie Soundtrack

I'm not sure which I love more, the movie or the soundtrack. The soundtrack has the most imperfectly perfect songs I've ever heard. From the tweest Velvet Underground track ever, to an amazing cover by Sonic Youth, it's just a happy album.

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls In America

Description
Massive Nights. One of the best tracks on the album, and what you'll have if you spin this disc at your next party. I love the energy of the Hold Steady. Craig Finn spends more time singing than speaking on this album (which clears up my one complaint with Almost Killed Me). Tons of energy: check. Catchy songs: check. Reliving teenagedom via middle-aged men: check. It's all just a ton of fun.

Jack White + Brendan Benson=good damn time. Anyone who underestimated Brendan Benson's effect on the sound of this group will be emediatly shocked once they make it past the lead single. When it first came out, I was slightly bummed the sound wasn't harder, more White Stripes-ish, but over time I love the pop infusion. The songs are catchy, not overly popy, but a nice balance.

The White Stripes - De Stijl

Description
This is my all-time favorite White Stripes album. A lot of the songs are shorter, and some veer towards the pop side of things. It's much more Hotel Yorba than Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground. When things were pretty and songs were stripped down.

The White Stripes - Icky Thump

Description
Rock and roll at it's finest. There's a bit of a Scotish influence ranging through some of the tracks, but I'll take it over the marimba. Effect and Cause is probably my favorite track. Overall it sees Jack White working out his rock aggression after making a prettier album with The Raconteurs previously.

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

Description
I love Rock'n'Roll, but on some level Folk will always have my heart. And the Decemberists can put out some of the best folk-pop around. For their major label debut they don't disappoint. A twelve minute epic based on The Tempest, the catchiest song cycle about a Japanese folk tale you will ever hear, along with a lovely creepy ballad about cereal killers and a song against war. Steven Colbert called them "hyperliterate prog rock" I call them happiness in a six inch disc.

Volume One: She & Him
10 people recommended this item
Description
The duo She and Him consisting of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel released their much anticipated debut album earlier this year. Volume One features songs with a classic pop and country twang sound. "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" has been featured to promote the Urban Outfitters Spring 2008 line and can be heard on the airwaves on Indie 103.1 and 89.9 KCRW.
Zooey Deschanel is one of the few credible actors turned musicians that I deeply admire. Volume One is a beautiful and earnest album that truly shines with stellar vocal harmonies and thoughtful lyrics. My favorite songs on the album are "I thought I Saw Your Face Today" and "Sentimental Heart."

Elvis Costello & The Imposters - Momofuku

Whoo! New Elvis Costello. He's probably one of my favorite live performers, and I'm psyched he's got some new music. Just came out on CD and iTunes today. Should be good!

I am OBSESSED with Kate Nash right now... this whole CD just rocks. Plain and simple like that. (Haven't loved a CD this much since Fiona Apple's "Extraordinary Machine" got leaked.
