Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur
First to recommend
Description
Good music for a good cause. The roster of artists who contributed to this album reads like a who's-who of rock. Yes, there are some disposable tracks on here as well, but there's something for just about everyone's taste. If you like John Lennon (or even if you aren't that familiar with his work) it's a good album to get.

Wow. 60 songs, 3 music videos all for $35, and the money goes to a really good cause. If I had the cash I'd buy it right now.

Real Emotional Trash: Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks

Description
Stephen Malkmus used to be the singer in Pavement, a great indie band from the 90s. Now he's on his own and with a great all-star indie band, the Jicks (including Jannet Weis from Sleater-Kinney) Great indie rock'n'roll album.

Great album of covers. She really re-envisions some already great songs. I like covers that are a different take on a well known song, rather than a faithful interpretation, which this album has a-plenty.

This Town's Disaster: Blackpool Lights

Description
I saw these guys open for Social Distortion last year, and they played a really tight, energetic set. I picked up their album at the show, and it's really good. Sometimes energy doesn't translate that well onto a record, but they did a very good job. It's a lot of fun, and pretty catchy. The Truth About Love is my pick.

Mermaid Avenue: Billy Bragg & Wilco

Description
So British singer/songwriter Billy Brag, and amazing alt.country band Wilco team up to dig through Woody Guthrie's unreleased records. The result... magic. It's a folk dream, with modern arrangements. Natalie Merchant guests on a song or two as well. Great Sunday morning record.

Description
Oh Brendan Benson, how do I love your wonderfully crafted pop songs? Filled with wondering about your place in life and love. What would a quiet spring day driving through the woods be without this album? I don't want to know.

This is such a great album. It just feel like summer to me. Great pop songs from a terrific singer/songwriter. "Penny on a Train Track" and "Don't Know Why" are my stand-out tracks.

Essential Ted Leo & The Pharmacists

Description
Great sampler of Ted Leo & the Pharmacists songs. All the up-beat pop you need to have a great spring drive with the top down. The songs come from a variety of albums, spanning their career. There's even a great cover of a Stiff Little Fingers song in there. Terrific intro to a great band.

Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain: Sparklehorse

Description
I love Sparklehorse's pretty, sad songs. They're beautiful and slightly broken, but that's what makes them so perfect. Very mellow record. "Shade & Honey" is the standout track for me.
