Description

Dorm halls are gross! Do not touch anything or sit anywhere until you have fully disinfected every surface. Carry these with you everywhere--your bedroom, the bathroom, the dining area, etc. You won't regret it.

Sennheiser HD 202 Headphones

Description

Get a good pair of headphones for several reasons. You don't want to be that horrible roommate that blasts music all day. You probably will need to drown out some unwanted sounds in the middle of night--or the afternoon in my own personal experience. Last, you can let your roommate borrow if they are the ones blasting music and they claim they don't have a pair.

Stay stocked up on tissue! Your dorm is not the place to run out and don't expect your roommates to let you use theirs unless you're really, really good friends (but that's not likely to happen).

Electric Blanket

Description

The one thing I wish I had most in my dorm room is an electric blanket. You usually have to adjust to being too hot or too cold to accommodate one or more roommates. When you're too hot, you can just take off layers, but it's hard to get warm. Usually, personal heaters aren't aloud in the dorm room so get a good electric blanket to keep you warm on those cold nights your roommate insists on keeping the window open.

Locking Steel Trunk

I hate to be cynical but when you live with strangers who will undoubtedly have their friends and friends of those friends over you really can't trust to leave your things unguarded. Get a good locking trunk or chest to protect your valuables. Keep it in your closet. If you're lucky, your dorm has locks on your closet doors.

Lysol Disinfectant Spray

Description

Air freshener is definitely a dorm essential, especially if you're not lucky enough to get a bathroom in your room or suite... that means you'll be sharing a community bathroom with 50+ girls. Eww! Get some good stuff that really eliminates odors and doesn't just cover it up. My favorite is Lysol.
