EcoSphere 4" Sphere

8 people recommended this item

Description

I got one of these as a gift, and it's kind of cool. There are actual, live, tiny little shrimp in these, and they do scurry around now and then.

If you leave it in too much light, algae will start to grow. It really is a mini ecosystem on your shelf! Plus it's just a cool glass orb to have around - you can never have too many glass orbs.

Music Orb

10 people recommended this item

Description

Modern yet wonderfully old fashioned, this music orb is hand crafted out of smooth, beautiful oak wood in Germany. A large, removable silver key winds the chime housed inside, which plays "Voi Che Sapete" from Mozart. A little pricey for what it does, but what better way to show your love of design and music? Oh, and orb shaped objects that make sounds.

Ambient Orb

20 people recommended this item

Description

I have to join the ranks of fans of this cool glass orb. It shows a beautiful, full and rich spectrum of colors, and can be set to any of 3 brightness levels so it doesn't keep you up at night.

I use mine to tell me current weather during the day, and at night, it tells me what tomorrow will be like.

It pulses gently if rain or snow is expected. So cool, so smart, and so simple. Form+Function.

It didn't hurt that I got it for $40 at a Discovery Store going out of business sale :D

Scanglobe - Simplicity Globe

First to recommend

Description

A cool, modern take on the classic globe. I love the matte metallic base and the transparency of the globe itself, allowing you to see where everything in the world lies in relation to each other. Very pretty and functional at the same time. It's useful to have one of these when you hear of some country and nod your head sagely, but really have no idea where the heck it is.

By looking through this globe, you can guess where to start digging if you want to end up in China. It would make an nice entrance for the '08 Olympics.

The ISIS Puzzle Orb

Description

Sounds cool. I don't own one, and it would probably drive me insane trying to figure it out.

But it's an orb.....in silver and black too!

World time clock

13 people recommended this item

Description

Unique and functional. Printed with the names of 24 major cities around the world, you simply rotate the clock so the proper city is in the 12 o'clock position. Then you get that city's time.

It's a very smart design, but it only has an hour hand and second (a minute hand wouldn't work - took me awhile to figure that out :D) and is a bit expensive for a cheap clock and a piece of plastic/rubber. Still, it looks nice on the desk and makes a cool gift.

Cable Turtles

2 people recommended this item

Description

Thank you, thank you, thank you cable turtles! You have almost eliminated wire-tangles behind my desk. For this, I am indebted.

Cable Turtles are smart pieces of silicone that fold up with a little effort and than roll back down. Simply open, wrap excess cord length around the core, and close it up all nice and neat like. They're great, and come in lots of colors too - black, gray, blue, red, green, etc. Nice boxes too.

sputnik photo clip

4 people recommended this item

Description

I wish there were more multiple-photo clip stand thingies available. The Sptunik from Crate and Barrel is one of the few I've found.

It didn't impress Hope (see below), and I can see why, but it's really not bad! It's got a very, very simple look and construction. Simple, steel circular base with 5 telescopic alligator clips sticking out. It's nothing amazing but it does have a very simple, metallic 'Sputniky' feel :)

You can adjust the height of each clip, and even swivel it from side to side, so it's pretty easy to get your ideal photo setup.

My only complaint lies with the alligator clips - they have little teeth, so your photos will receive little bite marks. Stupid overlook, I guess.

But overall, for less than $10, you can't get a better way to show off your favorite pics.

Pill Towels

3 people recommended this item

Description

Cool product and useful to boot! These little circular 'pills' are really highly compressed towelettes. Add a little water and it unfurls into a sturdy little towel!

They are of wash-cloth size and pretty strong, but will rip if you try to tear them. Very useful when traveling to unknown locales or events. Also useful when you don't want to ruin a perfectly good hotel towel.

Don't swallow them! :)

Flip and Tumble's 24-7Bag

Description

Smart! This bag can be scrunched down into a teeny little ball, perfect for storage. and when you are ready to use it (for shopping, the gym, beach... etc) it opens up into a generously sized tote.
