Description
This album has a rougher and less pop edge other albums. Its a great action packed, high energy album. Just don't get caught singing the first line from 'Fuck the Pain Away'. Its quite embarrassing.

Description
One of the most influential rock/alternative albums of all time. Nothing really matches it in terms of creativity , texture and atmosphere. A couple of the tracks go on a bit long for my taste, but overall, a tight album. Notable tracks, include "All Tomorrow's Parties", "Waiting For the Man", "Venus In Furs" and "Femme Fatale". It should be in your collection if you consider yourself to be an informed music collector. Even if it's just for looks.

Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007/Prélude (Instrumental): MP3 Downloads: Yo-Yo Ma

Description
This brooding solo cello piece by Bach is only a couple of minutes long. I've always liked it. I downloaded it tonight after hearing it on the radio and finding out what it was for the first time. Apparently, the president-elect has it on his IPOD --- go figure. Anyway, Yo-Yo Ma uses it as a warm-up piece every time he plays. I can see why. It's a beauty. I would too. (via amazon.com)

Buena Vista Social Club: MP3 Downloads

Description
Ry Cooder's name has helped bring attention to this session, but it's the veteran Cuban son musicians who make this album really special. Reminiscent of Ellington in its scope and sense of hushed romanticism, Buena Vista Social Club is that rare meld of quietude and intensity; while the players sound laid-back, they're putting forth very alive music, a reminder that aging doesn't mean taking to bed. Barbarito Torres's laoud solo on "El Cuarto de Tula" is both more blinding and more tasteful than any guitar showcase on any recent rock album; a quote from "Stormy Weather" and some very distinct parallels to Hawaiian styles remind us of why it's called "world music." Back to Black: Amy Winehouse

Description
I had no intention of even giving this album a chance, but ended up hearing a few tracks in a friends car and was amazed at Amy Winehouse's talent. I got a copy and it became one of my favorite albums of 2007. Even with all of all of the bad press Amy Winehouse continued to get well into 2008. All that I could hope is that she will survive to put out more stellar work. (via amazon.com)

Slumdog Millionaire: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Description
I'm a pretty big fan of world music. Just call me culturally schizophrenic and very curious when it comes to the arts. I haven't seen the film yet, but that didn't keep me from sampling the soundtrack. It is awash in textures of Indian electronica, hip-hop and trip-hop. A treat for the senses. (via amazon.com)

The Definitive Collection: Muddy Waters

Description
One of the greatest blues musicians of all time, Muddy Waters is still pulling new fans into the Blues today, more than two decades after his death.
With songs like "Mannish Boy", "Fourty Days and Fourty Nights" and "My Home Is In the Delta", the legend is truly alive in this collection. (via amazon.com)

Soul Brother No.1: James Brown
First to recommend
Description
This album makes you want to sing --- makes you want to move! By any name, James Brown stands alone. From pleading soul-cry ballads to urgent funk jams, he conceived and commanded a rhythmic revolution that resonates today. All of these selections, dating from 1956 to 1970, capture the Godfather of Soul at the peak of his powers. (via amazon.com)

Love Train:The Sound of Philadelphia: Various

Description
In some ways many of the songs on this box set are a soundtrack to my early childhood. Don't get me wrong, I heard everything from the Beatles to Country and Western, but these songs capture a time and place like no other.
Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia includes 71 songs on 4 CDs. These are the American standards that defined an era, features some of the most recognizable hits from the 1970's including some of my personal favorites, such as: "La-La Means I Love You" by The Delfonics, "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul, "For The Love Of Money" by The O'Jays, "When Will I See You Again", by The Three Degrees, and the song that the set is titled after, "Love Train" by The O'Jays.
These songs are pure musical nostalgia. (via amazon.com)
