Check Your Head [Explicit]: Beastie Boys

Description
When the Beastie Boys first came out, I could not stand them! Several years went by --- they matured and so did I. Well, actually they matured and I loosened up a bit. I noticed that I liked SOME hip-hop and that these guys actually had some talent. They also have serious staying power. That being said --- this album rocks and slams!
There is a soulful groove moving all of the way through it. Not to mention a few hardcore punk chops. Just the way I like things. Eclectic. I can still listen to this the entire length without skipping a song. Masterful production --- not over or under, just right. (via amazon.com)

The Man Comes Around: Johnny Cash
First to recommend
Description
Said to be the last song that Johnny Cash recorded. It kind of has that feel to it. It's rather biblical, apocalyptic, dark and joyful at the same time. I first became aware of it at the beginning of the remake to "Dawn of the Dead". It was fitting, but held its own in spite of the carnage that it was underscoring. After the movie was over the lyrics and the melody were still in my head. (via amazon.com)

Description
This is a great classic rock song. And might I add a complete and utter stoner song to say the least. And it's about chess....yeah. Don't try to make sense of it unless you've eaten a handful of mushrooms or have acid tabs stuck on your sweaty forehead. (Don't do that) (via Amazon)

Description
I love this album. The samples, beats and vocals work extremely well together. From the very first time I heard a song from this album, to the very last time I listened to one from this album --- pure satisfaction. The topics and lyrics are rather evocative of true events, and so one cannot help but get carried away in the emotion of this set of songs. I find that time and time again. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that this album never gets old for me. Call it arrested development or good songwriting. (via amazon.com)

Midnight Rider: The Allman Brothers Band

Description
There is a longing in this song that resonates with me. The ringing country harmonies and night time feel that this tune possesses speak to me in a way that honestly confounds me. Living in this part of the US, we all have back country roots, regardless of color. I grew up listening to all kinds of music and therefore am truly colorblind when it comes to my selections. All I can say when it comes to music like this and me is that, it appeals to me because it has soul, plain and simple. (via amazon.com)

Someone To Watch Over Me: Ella Fitzgerald

Description
A song that comes from a time when being able to actually sing was very important. Ella Fitzgerald is one America's premier jazz vocalists. She was and is amazing. On this particular song, her voice is like pure silk. It is heaven. (via amazon.com)

Kind of Blue: Miles Davis
3 people recommended this item
Description
50 years after its release, "Kind of Blue" is the best-selling classic jazz album of all time. This is the one jazz record owned by people who don't listen to jazz.
The band itself is extraordinary, listing John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans (or, on "Freddie Freeloader," Wynton Kelly) on piano, and the crack rhythm unit of Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums.
Miles Davis pushed his amazing side musicians outside of their comfort zones in a direct and economical way to guide them into doing what they did best. (via amazon.com)

TOM WAITS Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets To The Wind In Copenhagen): MP3 Downloads

Description
People either love or hate Tom Waits. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he sounds like he gargles shards glass every morning. This song is amazing. The contrast of his signature gravelly voice combined with this touching song is a perfect match. (via Amazon)

Somewhere: MP3 Downloads: Tom Waits

Description
This is an unusual pairing --- Tom Waits and the classic song from the Broadway musical "West Side Story". However, if you appreciate the vocal stylings of Tom Waits, and a song that has a melody and lyrics filled with longing. You will instantly fall for this. It is one of my favorites. The bluesy and jazzy treatment, along with Waits' earnest interpretation of the songs content make it a modern classic. (via amazon.com)
