Wanderlust Survival - a list by corrosiveheart

About this list:
This is a comprehensive list of survival products (and ideas!) for the busy traveller that faces every day challenges of hassles, hunger, and boredom. Even if you're taking your first flight or extended trip, you'll want to consider these items! (I've slept in airport terminals, been laid over for over 12 hours, and have taken 14+ hour train rides before I spent another 20 hours in the air or airports. I've lived out of a bag, slept in odd and soggy places, and have survived hunger in quite unique ways.)
Qualifications:
I'm an experienced world traveller - no doubt!

Compact Travel Umbrella
First to recommend
Description
Now this is the umbrella you could fit into your purse or pocket! Minimizing space is a must when you're travelling, so why not opt for a smaller umbrella with full rain protection and coverage?

Fashion Luggage Tag, Zebra
First to recommend

Description
These standard sized luggage tags are just too cute. I'm the kind of person that always like to make sure I instantly spot my bags (and hope that someone doesn't confuse my bag with theirs!) and would definitely use this.

Indicator Combination Lock, 3-Dial
First to recommend
Description
Personally, I couldn't travel without locking my belongings.
"Lock it and check it. This resettable three-dial combination lock features the Travel Sentry® mark, which enables TSA to easily unlock and relock your luggage for security checks. A red ring will appear around the base of the shackle if your luggage has been searched. Available in leopard, polka dot or zebra patterns." (via belle-hop.com)

Deluxe Neck Rest
First to recommend
Description
When my husband and I take 14-hour train rides (from our town to Oslo) we still opt for the minipris seats. This means if you can manage to sleep you must do so sitting up or on the shoulder of the person next to you. If you plan on long travels where you must sit for long periods an inflatable neck pillow is highly recommended. Forget those tiny ones they provide you with, you need full coverage neck support! This one has an easily washable cover, folds and takes little storage space, and can be easily inflated.

Regenerist Micro-derm Cleansing Cloths
First to recommend
Description
While certain liquid restrictions for flights are being lifted, you can never be too sure about amounts allowed at different international airports. With these small (dry) cloths all you have to do is add water, gently scrub your face and rinse, and you're done! I have to admit that of course these aren't as convenient as wet cloths, but you don't end up with that sticky residue feeling on your face that many wet cloths give.

Buy Wet Ones Singles Antibacterial Hands & Face Wipes - Citrus: 24 Count
First to recommend
Description
Let's say you're wandering a new city and know you need to freshen up and wash your hands because you're dying to eat at one of those yummy street stands, what do you do? These dura-strong hypoallergenic antibacterial single wipes are perfect for when you're on the go, and hey, they even have a nice citrus scent. I suppose I can appreciate this more now since we have kids that will be joining us during our travels. These are also perfect for flights - I always get a cold when flying so having antibacterial insurance is an added bonus.

Dr. Scholl's Adjustable Arch Pain Relief Orthotics
First to recommend
Description
I, like many people, suffer from arch pain. (Yes, I have flat feet!) These little wonders provide all day comfort, and allow for three different levels of support: light, medium, and firm. If you plan on walking for hours around a city doing all that typical touristy-type stuff, you'll definitely want to invest in these. There's nothing worse than sore and tired feet at the end of the day.

pare*umbrela | nowadays - yellow
First to recommend
Description
Never under-estimate the value of an umbrella! Many days we've been out walking throughout cities when we'd get caught in freak rainfalls. Although this isn't exactly a travel-sized umbrella, I would still choose it based on my needs of design over function. I suppose this gorgeously designed umbrella is better suited for when you know there's a chance of rain, or really need to be out when you can't avoid a rainfall and still want to show off some personal taste.

Coppertone Oil Free - QuickCover Lotion Spray SPF 50
First to recommend
2 people recommended this item
Description
If I could only recommend one skincare/sunblock product for the summer it would be this. The hot sun always makes my skin melt and I tend to get oily skin that breaks out easily. Thankfully this product is waterproof, moisturizing, and won't clog pores! It absorbs quickly while still providing perfect protection. This spray is easy to apply, and is also available in a more travel-friendly size.

Coppertone ultraGUARD - Continuous Spray SPF 70+
First to recommend
Description
You might think it's unnecessary to need such strong coverage, but trust me, burns happen more quickly than you'd think. Husband and I are veteran shoestring trekkers that appreciate strong coverage since we both have such pale skin that burns easily. This currently is the highest level of coverage you can get so if you're not going to spend an afternoon in the water, this stuff is for you.
