Seal | Soul (2008)

2 people recommended this item
Description
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the new Seal album, a collections of covers of soul classics, from Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Gonna Come', Ben E. King's 'Stand By Me', and Ann Pebbles' 'I Can't Stand The Rain' to Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes' 'If You Don't Know Me By Now' and Otis Redding's 'I've Been Loving You Too Long'.

Pretenders | Break Up The Concrete (2008)

Description
Think of this long awaited studio album as if it were the first Pretenders record: musical turf that's defined by attitude, lyrical and melodic mastery, and the unexpected...and Chrissie Hynde's voice as you've always known it. "Break Up The Concrete" is an authentic slice of rock Americana, ranging from blistering punk to the most delicate storytelling as told by the queen of rock royalty herself.

Jenny Lewis | Acid Tongue (2008)

Description
In case you need the credentials, Jenny Lewis is actually one of the founding member of Rilo Kiley and a lead singer. But, don't be confused her solo stuff is quite different (but probably better). People who like music will like this.

Nightmare Revisited | Various Artists

Description
Well worth a listen, Nightmare Revisited is an interesting new take on the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. It speaks to the brilliance of Danny Elfman that his score can be so seamlessly reinvented into vastly different musical styles-from modern to flamenco to hard rock. Among the best are Korn's kick-ass rendition of "Kidnap the Sandy Claus", Rise Again taking on "Making Christmas", and Amy Lee lamenting "Sally's Song". The musical numbers span the gap between traditional orchestral with the Vitamin String Quartet's, "Jack and Sally Montage" to RJD2's techo/electronica interpretation of "Chrismas Eve Montage". And of course, how perfect is freak show Marilyn Manson's creepy take on "Halloween"? Good choice for an adult Halloween party if you're tired of the old traditionals. You can only hear "Monster Mash" so many times...

Annuals | Such Fun (2008)
First to recommend
Description
Annuals busted out of the indie rock gate with a debut that was charming, weird, pretty and sweet. Such Fun adds up all those adjectives and multiplies them, but then subtracts most of the weird. The result reveals a more pop-attuned band that still likes to fiddle with a myriad of sounds.

Description
Have you seen this miniature gem of a film yet? If you answered yes, you already know why this soundtrack is awesome. I'd be shocked if you said no, but if you did -- check out the move, then by this album.
