Tropez Bronzer Deluxe in Tropez Bronze

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

I think Tropez is one of the best inexpensive drugstore brands as far as quality, pigmentation and bolder colors go for darker skin tones. Tropez Bronze is a really lovely silky bronzer color that is a coppery brown with just a touch of orange in it. There is some shimmer too, but it is not glittery - just a little shimmer to lift it off your skin a bit. This color looks very natural and really does give a nice healthy glow. The color had very good staying power, didn't streak or dry out my cheeks.

I wore this color when I did both a very nude face and also when I did a very strong smoky eye and caramel/shiney lip (a 'la J. Lo), and they both looked great. It is a really beautiful color that I think anyone could wear up to about an Iman complexion. The quality is excellent, very silky and pigmented and it costs $2.99 for a huge pan - Sun face imprint is cute too! This is very highly recommended! (via walgreens)

mark dry oil fragrance Sassy

First to recommend

Description

This smells sooo good, and the dry-down is even better. I would classify this as citrusy and fresh. (I’ve used several other mark fragrances and body products and in my opinion, this is mark's best fragrance yet).

This is a lighter version of the fragrance, but when I put this on first, it really gave the perfume more staying power. I also loved to spray it on after a bath. I believe this one is in a different league than the last few mark scents. The name Sassy is cute, and the bottle is adorable. The moisturizer is good, but if you have very dry skin you may still need a touch of your favorite lotion on key spots like elbows, knees, etc.

I hope they keep this one around for a long time. I've been using it non-stop since I got it and for this to be a dry oil spray, the scent lasts forever.

P.S. When I come across clothing that I had on when I wore this fragrance, it still smells as fresh as when I sprayed it. (via mark)

L'Oreal Skin Genesis Daily Moisturizer, SPF 15 Lotion

First to recommend

Description

This is an excellent moisturizer at a fantastic price. After using this for several weeks, my skin, which had previously looked a little dull and had some creases and fine-lines, all but disappeared. In particular I saw a significant decrease in the lines around my mouth and eyes. The other benefits of using the Skin Genesis were much more even-toned and soft skin.

The texture is smooth, light and silky and the smell is very pleasant. I also love that I got SPF protection without any sticky or filmy feel, which can sometimes happen in products with SPF in them. My skin was moisturized all day and I didn’t experience any breakouts. I would love to have this lotion for use in the summer months with a much higher SPF – perhaps it’s in the works!” G.L.

Note: This moisturizer worked best with normal to dry skins. Those of you with VERY dry skin may not get enough moisture with this product. (via Palacinka)

L'Oréal PARIS HIP CREAM SHADOW PAINT INTENSITY PIGMENTS in Nervy

First to recommend

Description

What an amazing concept that L’Oreal has crafted to perfection! I loved that these tubes include a little brush and case (which has a little “well” on the lower left hand side where you can mix the shade (with other cream shadows as well). I applied with the brush that came with it and they applied evenly & smoothly (for those of you who can’t give up your cream eye shadow brushes, yes this did also work well with mine, but you can’t beat the small compact one included for touchups and travel!

Nervy is a cool frosty taupe that read a bit greyer on my skin. This cream shadow is slightly shimmery and deeply pigmented. I was impressed by the eye shadow not creasing after 10+ hrs of wear as well. It was truly amazing. The formula is virtually budge proof once applied (I swiped it on my hand to test the color and then tried to rinse it off. It actually took several washings with soap before it was gone).

I also loved using this as a base for powder shadows (yes it also works well with the HIP powder shadows and the color truth eye liner ). All in all, this is a really pretty neutral color that will work with all skin tones and can be layered to make it a more dramatic color as well. A little dab (as small as a pen point actually) is more than enough to cover both eye lids. I found that I could also use my finders to blend it to really get a fine, detailed look as well. This is a truly innovative product and an amazing buy to boot! (via Palacinka)

E.L.F. Nail Polish Berry Pink

First to recommend

Description

So much for just $1! This is a thin formula that glided on smoothly, quickly and easily. It dried very quickly with almost no streaking as well. This polish covered my nails fairly well in the first coat, and the brush was just the right size/design. I also found that it lasted four to five days on me without chipping and stayed shiny, which for me that is quite remarkable - normally, most polishes chip on the very first day (I'm pretty hard on my nails). For packaging buffs these are absolutely adorable…with a splash of “faux” polish spilling out from underneath the cap! All for $1! Brilliant!

The color is a cheery, fun, deep bubble gum shade of pink that is slightly metallic with some light shimmer – perfect for summer (and very accurately represented on the site). 2 coats really brought out the full potential of the color, but one coat was also a nice wash of pink as well. It also looked great on my toes. This will work best up to a Whitney Houston shade.

Note: These nail polishes are toluene free, formaldehyde free, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) free and hypoallergenic.

Sonia Kashuk Eliminate Shine Mattifying Spray Powder

First to recommend

Description

The afternoon “glow” – which is really a nice word for shine, is something that I look to avoid at all costs. In the summer heat, it’s usually an uphill battle, with various products producing so-so-to-good results.

Sonia Kashuk has created a product which goes in the very good category. It’s a spray powder which I sprayed directly on to my powder brush as per the instructions. Within seconds I could see my t-zone shine disappearing. My skin felt soft and smooth and the powder has a nice, subtle scent.

During a few of the days I tested this, I was in 90+ degree heat/humidity and on those days I did need to give myself another spritz during the afternoon, but all in all, I was really pleased with how it tamed my oilies without breaking me out. It also worked really well with both my foundation and tinted moisturizer. It didn’t change the color, ball up or create dry patches. The powder is fine and mostly translucent, but there is still a lightly colored pigment in this powder, so this will work best on women up to a Kerry Washington shade. Great for travel too & fantastic price to boot! (via Palacinka)

Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge

First to recommend

4 people recommended this item

Description

If you already love the act of applying makeup, then this will really put a smile on your face!

This cute little blue sponge is a jack of all trades. The sponge is firm upon taking it out of the clear plastic case, so the first thing I did was to the sponge and run it under water, getting it completely wet. It doubled in size and then had soft, pillow-like appearance. Next, I squeezed the sponge out very well so that it was slightly damp. Then I swiped it across my cream foundation and dabbed it first in the mid section of my face near my nose, sweeping it outward towards the edges of my face (cheek, forehead, and chin). Within a minute or two the foundation was dry and the coverage was fantastic. With the sponge I was able to get to all the corners of my eyes and nose.

The top of the sponge is narrower and perfect for dabbing around the corners of the nose, or on blemishes, while the bottom, wider part is what I used to actually apply my foundation on the majority of my face. With the sponge, my foundation looked natural, yet had a very nice med/sheer coverage with a tad bit of a dewy appearance. For my concealer, I dabbed a bit directly under my eye with my concealer brush and then used the top narrow part of the sponge to tap into my skin until it blended seamlessly.

With cream blush, I found the best way to use it was by tapping the bottom half lightly on the blush and then applying in a circular motion on my cheeks. Beautiful! This is a great little makeup tool that I’ll always have in my kit.

Note: Here is a rinsing tip. Try rinsing the sponge after use by letting as much of the makeup wash off as possible with plain water. Then apply a small dab of a simple gel cleanser to clean any remaining makeup from the sponge. It doesn’t come with a storage case, per say, but you can try setting it atop the actual clear case that the sponge comes in to dry. (via Palacinka)

Olay Daily Purifying Body Wash With Sea Salts And Microbeads

First to recommend

Description

To tell you the truth, I have been so immersed in Olay’s facial care products (Definity, Total Effects, etc.), that I have not used one of their body washes in a few years!

I’m glad to say that it’s come to an end with my testing of their new Daily Purifying wash.

This body wash looks different than their past washes, and it’s also is right up my alley with Sea Salts, since I’ve experienced great results from many products & spa treatments using them. The texture is that of a smooth, gelatinous liquid with the scrubbing beads and sea salts embedded within. The combination of the beads and salts gave me a really nice scrub; energizing and very good for the key areas like elbows and knees, while being extremely moisturizing and gentle at the same time. Note that this is not a high lathering body wash however (didn't bother me). I also loved the scent, which is fresh/marine.

I loved using this after a day at the beach or a gym workout. After rinsing it off it left my skin soft and supple without any film residue. It's also quite concentrated, so a little goes a long way, making this a great buy as well. This is a perfect solution for those of you who have dry skin and would like a cleanser/exfoliator in one! Olay Definity Color Recapture Anti-Aging Moisturizer+Sheer Illuminating Coverage

First to recommend

Description

Olay has made incredible strides with the creation of this product. It is a tinted moisturizer, which many of you love to use, but since this is an Olay product, there are some additional benefits and product innovations which I was impressed with.

The see-through tube reveals a color “swirl” which is the tinted moisturizer shade + the moisturizer (like a “cosmetic” soft ice cream cone!). I really liked this effect. I pumped just once to release the mixed product in my hand, blended it together and applied to my face with my fingers. (Note: I also had great results using a slightly damp blender sponge like Sonia Kashuk’s.

As this is a “tint” the color blended in very nicely with my skin tone (I used light/medium). Think of using a “wash” as opposed to a “paint” to color your walls. I let it sink in for a few minutes to set. It felt light on my skin and really made my skin look luminous immediately. When I was ready to begin applying the rest of makeup my skin was moisturized with no oily spots. I found that a bit of concealer, then blotting with a sheet and finished with some powder gave me the best results to really look polished. On the weekends I sometimes skipped the power if I was just running around. The finish without powder is dewy (not oily) which was very nice and just what I wanted.

I loved how my skin looked when I wore this and found that each and every time it went on evenly and effortlessly. Please note that since this is a tint, you should have a fairly good skin tone to begin with. This will not cover up major skin discolorations, hyperpigmentation, freckles, etc, but it does contain ingredients that with time do help improve the overall tone of the skin. I found that a few very light blemish marks did fade after several weeks of using the product as well. My skin felt plump, moisturized and little fine lines were much less noticeable.

The product also has a sunscreen which is on the lower end (15), but fine for daily short term sun exposure.

This is a “higher end” drugstore product that is certainly worth every penny.

Note: This will work best for normal to dry skins, as it may make oily skin appear more shiny/oily. Also, even though this is a tint, women that are darker than a Whitney Houston shade for example, should use the medium/dark shade for best results. (via Palacinka)

Sonia Kashuk Tools Foundation Brush

First to recommend

Description

Sonia Kashuk has become a master at creating not only cosmetics but cosmetic tools for the masses that are a perfect combination of form+function, and this foundation brush is right at the top of my list of favorite Kashuk products.

This foundation brush is about 7 in" long with a black handle conviently shaped to fit perfectly in your fingers. I loved how light it was, and how sturdy the bristles were. They were soft, yet firm and helped me to apply my cream/liquid foundations smoothly and evenly. I didn't have any brush lines, and the brush distributed all the foundation on my face, and did not leave residual foundation on the brush. It comes in clear hard plastic case, so it was easy to store in the bathroon or to pack for travel.

For those of you who love applying concealer and cream blush with a brush, you should know that this also worked great for me on both fronts. I loved that is was also versatile.

The brush was easy to clean and really held up well after getting regular use week after week. This is a fantastic brush at a great price and should be in everyone's makeup kit! (via Palacinka)
