Optimistic
First to recommend
Description
Unlike most of Kid A, Optimistic would have been perfectly at home on the previous record. Along with Idioteque, this was one of two promos released for Kid A (in lieu of actual singles) and proved to be a smoothing segueway within the somewhat jarring artistic changes that took place following OK Computer.

Fake Plastic Trees

Description
Considered by many critics, particularly in America, to be the point at which Radiohead went from being a mediocre alternative rock band to being an inimitable force in pop songcraft, this track was the band's first single in the US to appear from The Bends.

Idioteque

Description
Several tracks on Kid A marked a significant change of direction for the band after OK Computer, but maybe none so much as this. The influence of glitchy drum & bass is clearly present, and the song is also Radiohead's first venture into sampling.

2 + 2 = 5

Description
At the time of Hail to the Thief, in 2003, nothing from Radiohead could have sounded more contemporary and mature. Opening with the spare tone of Amnesiac before morphing into a return to guitar-heavy form, the song ultimately erupts into one of the more jerkily danceable tracks in the band's songbook.

The Bends

Description
A weird chronological choice in this collection, the title track from Radiohead's second album falls deep within side two. The LP may be over-represented here, with this being the most glaring example, but that's up to you.

Pyramid Song

Description
At the time of its release, Amnesiac was consistently (and inaccurately) reviewed as a collection of subpar tracks that hadn't made it onto Kid A, which was mostly recorded at the same time and had been released only eight months earlier. Even in light of that, Pyramid Song is a curious inclusion, not nearly the best track on Amnesiac.

Street Spirit (Fade Out)

Description
The last of five full tracks--nearly a third of the collection--to appear from The Bends, "Street Spirit" can't disappoint. A strong single from the band's second album, this track is still a mainstay in Radiohead live appearances.

Everything In Its Right Place

Description
To this day, this track is one of the more ominous and memorable drones Radiohead has produced. The song's groove marks a somber, spare chapter for Radiohead that would be bookended by Kid A and Amnesiac, largely recorded together but released nearly a year apart.
