They’re flattering, er, not that that’s important (HAHAHA) and they work at the crag and around town.

I always have some in my pack flap. At the crags you always see people you know and want to swap contact info. Or leave insulting notes on their windshields.

Best things since sliced bread, if you have cold hands. I strap ‘em to my wrist with Thermabands. Constantly.

Trango Jaws

Description

I use a Grigri auto-locking device when someone is working a route, but for redpoints and onsights I always go with a Tuber or ATC device. My early belaying was mostly with a Stitcht plate. My instincts are better with manual belay devices.

Description

We must have six or eight at our house. I have been very sorry before, more than once (slow learner) to get stuck on or descending from a climb without one. We have a BD LED-incandescent combo, a Petzl Myo 3, and various old ones, including a Wal-mart type thing that my kid got for his birthday. It wasn’t bad.

Black Diamond Equipment, Ltd. - Ice Line

Description

It’s just a good rope, and long enough for most of today’s longer pitches. It’s not light, it’s durable. Thin, light ropes feel nice, but I worry about them going over an edge, or in the hands of a belayer who isn’t that experienced and could let one slip. That probably wouldn’t happen, but my imagination is a little too good.
