Description
I use a Grigri auto-locking device when someone is working a route, but for redpoints and onsights I always go with a Tuber or ATC device. My early belaying was mostly with a Stitcht plate. My instincts are better with manual belay devices.

Description
We must have six or eight at our house. I have been very sorry before, more than once (slow learner) to get stuck on or descending from a climb without one. We have a BD LED-incandescent combo, a Petzl Myo 3, and various old ones, including a Wal-mart type thing that my kid got for his birthday. It wasn’t bad.

Description
It’s just a good rope, and long enough for most of today’s longer pitches. It’s not light, it’s durable. Thin, light ropes feel nice, but I worry about them going over an edge, or in the hands of a belayer who isn’t that experienced and could let one slip. That probably wouldn’t happen, but my imagination is a little too good.
