Hunger

Description

Hands down the best film I've seen this year. A brilliant first feature film by video artist Steve McQueen about the story of IRA member Bobby Sands and the hunger strike he undertook while imprisoned in the early 1980s. Without posing moral judgement, the film highlights the subjectivity and power of conviction as well as its possible profundity and futility. This movie is scarce on dialogue but has one of the sharpest written 15 minute, single shot dialogue scenes I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. (via Apple Trailers)

Big Man Japan

Wow! This Japanese action film looks bizarre. It's a bout a middle aged man who, when shocked with electricity, is transformed into a gargantuan super hero that battles monsters. I'll definitely be seeing this one. (via Six Shooter FIlm Series)

TOKYO!

Description

Three films in one, directed by three directors about one city. Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Leos Carax (Pola X) and Joon-ho Bong (The Host) wrote and directed the films. It looks highly surreal and I will double down that it will give me nightmares. I'm not going to anticipate a cohesive story line, but it should be a fascinating and visually stunning ride. If you love music, check out this movie about the 70's- 80's music scene in Manchester. The film is a docudrama of sorts that is told through the story of tv anchor/ personality turned record producer Tony Wilson who was front and center during the rise and tragic fall of Joy Division, The Sex Pistols, Happy Mondays and more. This movie is awesome! Rent it if you can. Its about a group of prisoners taken to a remote island and trained by the military to assassinate the president of North Korea. All sorts of stuff goes wrong during the psychologically and physically rigorous training that borders on criminal. Even those in charge are pushed to the limits. It all culminates in a deadly insurrection. (based on a true story that occurred in the 70's) (via Amazon)

Great movie! A disturbing tale of a young girl living in a small village in Peru. The town becomes lively and boisterous during the period between Good Friday and Easter (its believed that God isn't watching during that period of time). The girls encounters with a man from the big city who is just passing through changes her life forever. (via Amazon)

Description

This is a truly touching romance horror movie between a twelve year old boy and "12 year old" vampire in Norway. Sweet but kind of disturbing and not to mention gory. Rated R and definately not for those under 17.
FYI: Apparently the book this was based off of was written long before the Twilight novels.
I highly recommending seeing this one since we're all pretty familiar with formulaic Hollywood conventions when it comes to movie making of any genre. Treat yourself to something unique. This one is a must see. (via Imdb)
