Worn Again Womble Sneakers

I want these shoes real bad. They are made from 99% recycled materials and offer a bit more protection than my flip flops for serious city walks. (The baby blue is recycled parachute!)

If you've got to do disposable for summer BBQs these are a better alternative. The plates, cups and bowls are 100% biodegradable, compostable sugar cane fiber. No styrofoam, I beg you!

Glee Gum

First to recommend

Description

I am having a harder and harder time finding gum without aspartame or some such artificial sweetener. That is why I was so psyched to discover Glee Gum. Its yummy and all natural, made with sustainably harvested rainforest chicle. (3 flavors: cinnamon, peppermint and tangerine - I found it at Trader Joe's).

SIGG Sportbottle

83 people recommended this item

Description

There’s a big need to reduce the amount of plastic. Plastic is an oil-based product, so the production of plastic adds to the world’s carbon footprint plus the toxic byproducts are quite scary. Plastic also has “downstream” effects not known by many people. www.plasticdebris.org and www.ecologycenter.org/iptf/ are two sites to help educate the public of these side-effects of using plastic.

SIGG bottles are extrusion-pressed from a one-piece aluminum blank, which results in uniform, seamless walls. The SIGG bottle has acquired cult status. The company started in Biel, Switzerland in 1908. Since 1998, SIGG has concentrated on its core business: drinking bottles that deliver ultimate customer benefit. SIGG bottles currently enjoy 70% brand recognition in German-speaking countries and lead the European market. SIGG is the brand leader for comprehensive, high-quality drinking systems for leisure and sports use. The SIGG website has a great graphic that shows how the bottles are made. The bottles are widely available throughout the United States and other countries around the world.

Description

Dust off your sewing machines! Designer Wendy Mullin not only makes cute clothing for you to buy but she wants you to be able to as well! If you've been into a fabric store or sewing shop lately you may have noticed that most of the patterns available are not very current or particularly cute.

Wendy has created a series of basic patterns (some of the finished garments are pictured here - I particularly love the jackets and trousers) that reflect some of today's trends. You don't have to be a fashion designer to do this - you pick the fabric, you alter the pattern to your own preferences, you tailor it to fit your shape, and you feel the satisfaction of wearing something that no one will guess you made yourself! If you're feeling totally lost by the idea, she has a book available and also a kit with everything you need (aside from the sewing machine) which would be a great gift for any crafty gal on your Christmas list!
