You've Only Got Three Seconds
First to recommend
Description
What kind of first impression do you make? This is a dastardly, yet fascinating book about controlling your image, but also a dissection of class structure in the US. Those of us from a middle class background will surely recognize the description of it as "the most restrictive, most exclusionary group there is." I think the idea that you're permanently judged on the impression you make in the first 3 seconds probably places the author firmly in one of the categories she outlines. Some of us are more flexible - placing me no doubt squarely in another category. And if you despise categories -- she's got a category for you, too.

Personality Types: Using the Enneagram for Self-Discovery
First to recommend
Description
A fascinating study of personality types. The enneagram divides people into 9 types, with many variations depending if they're moving into the healthy or unhealthy side of their personality. Great for creating characters in fiction, and for analyzing yourself and those around you in real life. If you feel constrained by structure, you won't like this book. (via Jeff Kitchen)

The Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-Free Play

Description
This author's theory is that procrastination comes from a feeling of being overwhelmed and never having time for fun. At the heart of his program is the "Unschedule." You schedule in fun stuff first, then fit in time for your dreaded project in half hour increments. Use this to finish your novel, or dissertation, or anything else you've been putting off. It works!
