Om Manu Padme Hum

First to recommend

Description

From Wikepedia:

Om mani padme hum is probably the most important mantra in Buddhism, the six-syllabled mantra of the bodisattva of compassion, Avalokieshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig, Chinese Guanyin).

Mantras may be interpreted by practioners in many ways, or even as mere sequences of sound whose effects lie beyond strict meaning.

"The mantra Om Mani Pame Hum is easy to say yet quite powerful, becuase it contains the essence of the entire teaching. When you say the first syllable Om is is blessed to help you achieve perfection in the practice of generosity. Ma helps perfect the practice of pure ethics, and Ni helps achieve perfection in the practice of tolerance and patience. Pa, the fourth syllable, helps to achieve perfection of perserverance, Me helps achieve perfection in the practice of concentration, and the final sixth syllable Hum helps achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom.

"So in this way reciatition of the mantra helps achieve perfection in the six practices from generosity to wisdom. The path of these six perfections is the path walked by all the Buddhas of the three times. What could be more meaningful than to say the mantra and accomplish the six perfections?"

NOVICA - 'Little Buddha Praying'

First to recommend

Description

I was struck by the detailing in this depiction of Buddha in silent meditation by Balinese master carver Nyoman Karsa. The radiance and depth that emanate from this piece, come partially from the golden brown deep grain of the crocodile wood he uses. However, the overall effect is one of grace, reflection and light. Wood OM Black Wall Hanging - 12" & 15"

First to recommend

Description

From "Om: Symbol of the Absolute" at about.com:

Om or Aum is of paramount importance in Hinduism. This symbol is a sacred syallable representing Brahman, the impersonal Absolute of Hinduism --- omniponent, omnipresent, and the source of all manifest existence. Brahman in itself is so incomprehensible; so a symbol becomes mandatory to help us recognize the Unknowable. Om, therefore, represents the unmanifest (nirguna) and manifest (saguna) aspects of God. That is why it is called pranava, to mean that it pervades life and runs through our prana or breath. (via santosha.com)

Bikou Kobunboku - Spring Plum

First to recommend

Description

Bikou means: "Delicate incense". Bikou Kobunboku is a subtler version of the traditional Kobunboku formula. Very soft and fresh, with just a hint of cassia and other Chinese herbs with both sandalwood and aloeswood. The "smokeless" variety is actually less-smoke, meaning that the smoke is barely discernable. (via santosha.com)
