Teak spirit house, 'Guardian Spirit Home'
First to recommend
Description
This is one of the, for lack of a better term, coolest aspects of a traditional Buddhist home that I have come across. According to custom, when people finish building their houses they create a san phra poom, or guardian spirit house. A Buddhist ceremony takes place to invite a protective spirit to inhabit the small house. It is believed it will bring luck, happiness, success and security against mean spirits or enemies who might threaten the family or their home.
Fascinated by Thailand's ancestral buildings, Pirot Gitikoon carves a faithful replica of a Buddhist temple, known as a vihara.. Carved of teakwood by hand, the miniature temple is intended to become a spirit house.
Pirot Gitikoon does artisan work in his spare time in Thailand. He work is showcased on novica.com. (via novica.com)

Wood mask, 'Buddha from China'
First to recommend
Description
This mask seems almost "alive". I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to open his eyes. The realism in the face of this "Buddha from China" appeals to me on a basic level of human recognition. However, the craftsmanship in it is certainly impressive.
Earrings grace his elongated lobes and the mark of enlightenment centers his forehead. Working in blonde Balinese hibiscus wood, the artisan depicts a Buddha image from China.
This mask is by Balinese woodcarver Nyoman Naranata. He comes from a long line of wood carvers and his work is featured Novica.com. (via novica.com)

porcelain buddha bath by Estudio Manus
2 people recommended this item
Description
The Buddha in this centerpiece from Estudio Manus has a somewhat serene, yet mischievous-looking expression on his face, as he sits in the center of a porcelain basin. He looks as though he might begin to splash water at any second.
I think this is an excellent alternative way to display flowers. Having the blossoms float in the water surrounding the Buddha. Wonderful piece.

Sandstone statuette, 'Ganesha and the Cycles of Life'
First to recommend
Description
I am fascinated by religious iconography. Especially those from Hinduism and Catholicism.
The elephant-headed Ganesh is my favorite Hindu deity, being the God of Wisdom and "remover of obstacles". Said also to be the "keeper of the records of knowledge," Ganesha exudes a calming aura as he affects positively the space he occupies. He reclines for a comfortable rest, holding in one hand a mystical chain symbolic of life's cycles. Wayan Kandiyasa sculpts his divine image from sandstone with masterful care for detail.
