Going Somewhere: Colin Hay

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

If you listen to Colin Hay, you may find yourself wondering where you've heard that voice before. He was the lead singer for Men at Work. Now he's the mellow lead singer of his own, much-less-well-known band.

His new style is much more introspective, and it still speaks to me as much as "I come from a land down under" ever did.

Call of Duty 4 (PC,XBox, & PS3)

Description

Great graphics, an engaging storyline, and enjoyable gameplay. It's one of the more realistic games I've played on the PS3.

Rock Band

Description

I have to admit, I was kind of skeptical about this to begin with. Seemed gimmicky. Seemed like a knock off of Guitar Hero.

But it was hugely fun. And the drums are almost as good a workout as DDR. (via jthurkettle)

Half Life 2: Orange Box (computer Game)

First to recommend

Description

Portal is the only pure-puzzle first person shooter I've ever seen. Loads of 3D physics fun and a real sense of humor. This bite-sized Half Life mod builds to a compelling crescendo -- the best atmosphere since Half Life 2.

Team Fortress is The Incredibles meets Counterstrike. Great range of character abilities makes every match-up interesting.

I haven't even begun Half Life 2 parts 1 and 2. I'm told they basically add up to Half Life 3. (via KateEO)

I heard "To Build a Home" on KCRW and enjoyed it. Sounds like Coldplay.

Description

UT3 is shipping! Unfortunately, the newest PC graphics card I have access to is about two years old. So I'm gonna have to slum it on the PS3. When the linux client comes out, though, I'm probably gonna have to invest a million dollars in the latest and greatest nvidia card. Sigh.

Last night I watched this again, for the first time since I saw it in the theater. It was even funnier this time. Maybe I've watched too much Star Trek in the interim.

Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device

84 people recommended this item

Description

Leading online retailer, Amazon, throws its weight behind an e-book platform. The key to all e-books is that they use e-ink. This means you can read it in bright sunlight, just like a book. It's also power-efficient; Amazon claims it can be used for a week without recharging.

Finally, the unique feature of the Kindle is that it uses an EVDO network to download books and magazines. So it works anywhere your cell phone does.

Everyday Shooter

First to recommend

Description

Mellow music and hallucinogenic graphics bely a calm gaming experience, but the pace of this game is harried.

One of my favorite features is that no matter how poorly you do, you get points you can spend to unlock features for future attempts. This keeps me out of the gaming rut where I obsess about the high score and restart as soon as I deviate from perfection. It brings a little role-playing goodness to the simple shooter.

28 Days Later (2003)

First to recommend

15 people recommended this item

Description

I do not tend to think of myself as a fan of the horror movie genre, much less of the zombie subgenre. However, I really enjoyed 28 Days Later. It's probably because I am very much a fan of the "last humans alive at the end of the world" features and this film did an excellent job of portraying one of these scenarios.
