Brian Regan: Standing Up
First to recommend
Description
Brian Regan is kind of obnoxious, but he's so funny that I'm all out of laughs for Jon Stewart. His humor is pretty clean, too; watch it with the kids.
Looks like Amazon isn't shipping the DVD until August, but maybe you can still catch him on Comedy Central. (via Comedy Central)

The graphics and audio are spectacular. It's quiet. Wireless controllers are a relief. Motion-sensing (sixaxis) controllers are fun.
Resistance, Fall of Man is a fun game. Not quite Half-Life 2, but very fun.
Underworld 2 shows off the Blu-Ray capabilities well.

Shame (2006)
First to recommend
Description
"Shame" is a documentary that keeps moving. It portrays the blossoming of a very unusual woman from rural Pakistan. You will experience a slice of a life very different from your own and, hopefully, be inspired in the process.

RONDELLUS: Sabbatum
First to recommend
Description
If you get the nagging feeling that the Gregorian chant you're listening to sounds familiar, try envisioning the words -- translated from Latin, of course -- coming from the mouth of an obese, crazed English man lip syncing to a Tony Iommi guitar solo. A bewildered "aha!" indicates you may be listening to Sabbatum.
Sabbatum is classic Black Sabbath tunes performed the way God intended them: a capella. It's magical.

I don't actually want to buy this. I want a friend to buy it so I can borrow it and rip all my old LPs to mp3. Then I'll never use it again.

This is a wooden ball that plays music, even as it rolls around. I like the idea. (via productwiki.com)

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (movie, 2005)
First to recommend
Description
I read the first Harry Potter book and decided it was a weak excuse for a real kids' fantasy book. It was no The Lion The Witch, and the Wardrobe or The Hobbit. I saw the second movie -- Harry Potter and the something of something -- and it too was a weak representative of its genre. Wikipedia tells me there is a third movie in the series, of whose existence I, mercifully, have no memory whatsoever.
So if it weren't for the fact that I feel the need to eke the maximum possible number of hours out of the 47 high-definition channels for which Time Warner charges me more money each month than my entire life savings up to the age of 13, I would never even have considered spending two and a half hours subjecting myself to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -- the fourth and most recent episode.
But I do, they do, and I did. And I am here to declare that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is The Empire Strikes Back of the Harry Potter franchise.
It's scary. The CGI is awesome. The kids seem almost adult. The story's incomprehensibility and jumbled plotline makes me think the book might actually be worth reading. There's intrigue and romance between the minor characters. Luke Skywalker -- I mean Harry Potter -- even flirts with a girl who's not his sister (Hermione IS his sister, as far as I can tell). Just like Empire Strikes Back, there's fauna that brings out the worst in people; premonitions of friends suffering; somebody even gets their hand cut off.
I can't necessarily recommend this for your squeamish child. But, frankly, I wouldn't have enjoyed it so much if your squeamish child were able to sleep without nightmares for the next week.
If you're not a squeamish child, you should consider watching this move.

When I put the CD in my CD player, it turned from black-with-white-writing to white-with-black-writing. Pretty cool.
It always takes me a while to get into a new CD, but so far, I'd say it's pretty good. Definitely a little noisier and less lyrical than With Teeth.
