Death By Unga Bunga!! - the Mummies

First to recommend

Description

As if the title of this CD alone is not enough to make you want it (seriously, I think this is the best CD title ever). Anyway, back to the music, this is some great raw garage punk! Some great tunes by a great band with a awesome named CD! So order it already!

Manitobas

First to recommend

Description

Next time I go to NYC, this will be one of my first stops! For those of you who have never heard of Manitoba's let me tell you why you should go. First of all it is owned by the fantabulous Handsome Dick Manatoba. Who is this Handsome Dick you speak of you ask? Let me school those of you who are not in the know. Handsome Dick is the singer for the iconic NYC band the Dictators, as well as DJ extraordinarie on my only reason for listening to radio, the Underground Garage on Sirius Satellite Radio. Manitobas is also supposed to have a kickin' jukebox! What else do you need to know? In the words of Handsome Dick, "oh, forgetaboutit"!

Shake Break!- The Swingin' Neckbreakers

First to recommend

Description

One of the most fun high energy garage/punk bands. This CD is worth it alone for their cover of The Girl Can't Help It. If you love garage and punk, you can't go wrong with this CD. It's like caffeine for your ears!

Mojo Magazine

First to recommend

Description

If you have cool broad taste in music (such as you love the Faces and Primal Scream) this magazine is for you. It's British and I'm not surprised as this is only one of two music magazines that I read on a regular monthly basis (the other one being Classic Rock, which is also a British magazine). I read this from cover to cover every month. A bonus is it also comes with a CD every month. This is pricey but worth it. There is no US magazine that I'm aware of that can even come close to Mojo! I buy this every month (you can find it easily at Borders) but someday I'm going to spluge and get a subscription.

Thee Parkside: San Francisco's Premier Dive Venue

First to recommend

Description

How I love Thee Parkside. It is choked full of divey goodness. One of my fav. places to see bands (and a fun place just to go for a drink). Easy parking, the bartenders are great and generous and I've seen some great bands there. A fun place to hang out. If the Black Halos or the Chelsea Smiles ever play here again, make sure to check them out!

Big Midnight - Everything For The First Time

First to recommend

Description

Big Midnight is the continuation of the fantastic Richmond Sluts! If you love Iggy, Johnny Thunders and the New York Dolls, you are sure to love Big Midnight. This is not quite as sleazy as the Richmond Sluts CD, but it is still fantastic!

Rock 'N' Roll Soldiers - The Two EPs

First to recommend

Description

These soldiers are fighting and winning the good fight for rock and roll (take that whiny emo boys). I would best describe this great CD as garage meets glam meets punk.

Richard Hell is one of my idols. An amazing writer and style icon. This is my fav. CD by him. While most people know the iconic song, Blank Generation, I really love Love Comes in Spurts! Genius!

Music by Mavens

Updated May 14, 2008

Music by women who are true Mavens (and a few who are new on the scene and appear to be up and coming Mavens, IMO).
