The Pipettes - We Are the Pipettes

First to recommend

Description

Such an amazingly fun CD. Think back to 60's girl groups like the Ronettes except with updated lyrics and you get the idea of the Pipettes. My favorite song is Pull Shapes! Let me warn you, once you put in this CD you will not stop dancing!

The Sonics - Here Are the Sonics

First to recommend

Description

To me, these guys are the Godfathers of American "Garage" rock! Get this and see why this CD sounds as fresh and amazing today as it did in 1965! If you consider yourself any type of garage rock aficionado you can't afford to be without this CD (and you more than likely already own it). Hell, if you just like good loud rock and roll in general you need this CD!

The 1990s - Cookies

First to recommend

Description

I predict these guys will be huge. The singer's voice sounds to me a lot like Pete Shelley (singer from the Buzzcocks). This is great fun sing along music. This is another one of those bands who you can tell are from the UK (they hail from Glasgow).

The Gentlemen - Blondes Prefer the Gentlemen

First to recommend

Description

The Gentlemen feature Mike Gent from the Figgs (an amazing band out of Boston, that a friend of mine who is from there turned me on to 5 years ago or so). This CD will just rock your socks off from start to finish. I am a sucker for sarcastic and witty lyrics and these abound here. How can you not love, "you should be rocking with a rock and roller, but you're giggin' with a session man." My fav. tracks are:

~ Let Us Know
~Show Me How You Rock n' Roll
~ It's Phony Rock N' Roll
~ Riding in the Backseat

Garage Rock and Its Roots: Musical Rebels and the Drive for Individuality

First to recommend

Description

An interesting read that traces the roots of garage rock (using the Detroit music scene as the main focal point). A must read for any fan of garage rock.

Kinks (The Ultimate Collection)

First to recommend

Description

Now I know I really don't need to tell you how great the Kinks are, that Ray Davies is one of the best songwriters, ever. Of course I don't need to tell you. If you want all their best songs in one handy dandy double-CD, this is it! Waterloo Sunset is one of my favorite songs, EVER! When I go to London someday, the first thing I'm doing is taking my ass to Waterloo Bridge, and seeing first hand a Waterloo Sunset.

Baby 81: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

First to recommend

Description

The latest CD from SF's very own Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I really like this CD a lot. I really, really loved last year's Howl. I loved the earthy, down in the bayou feel of it.This CD is back to the heavy sound (which I also love) of their first two CD's. A definite must have.

The Dollyrots - Because I'm Awesome

First to recommend

Description

"Cause I'm Neat-O, and I'll beat you, cause I'm Awesome, that's right", goes the most awesome song by the Dollyrots, Because I'm awesome. You really need to pick up this CD. These guys are a power/punk/pop trio from LA. Hey they are signed to Joan Jett's Blackheart Records! If Joan love's em what else do you need to know. And yes, they really are awesome

Diamond Dogs - Bound to Ravage

First to recommend

Description

Early material from one of my fav. bands on the planet, Sweden's Diamond Dogs. If you love the Faces, etc. you will definitely love the Diamond Dogs. My fav. song on this one is the title track, Bound to Ravage. It has a mean slide guitar that I just adore!

Music by Mavens

Updated May 14, 2008

Music by women who are true Mavens (and a few who are new on the scene and appear to be up and coming Mavens, IMO).
