D.A.N.C.E. - a list by Andrea

About this list:

For those of us serious about dance - not capital-D Dance in a studio with a bar and a requisite body dysmorphic disorder, but dance! in a room packed with friends, great music, no restraints, no regrets, and no cover - 2 things are essential: the aforementioned amazing music, of course, and the also touched upon lack of restraints. Music meaning sick beats that not only make you want to dance, but make you have to dance, and lack of restraints as in hot, free-wheeling joy-clothes that never hold you back.

Qualifications:

I'm serious about dance.

Martin Margiela 6 Leather Mini Purse

First to recommend

Description

Its petite cut and gem-tone color make it perfect for dancing - which, reading over my bag reviews, is apparently the only benefit worth thinking about for a bag. This little number lacks the high-tech benefits of a garter purse, but it's so small that even around your shoulder, it's out of your way - and if it gets too full, you can always wear it like a backwards necklace.

Twenty Two Suede Pull-On Ankle Boots

First to recommend

Description

Picture yourself flying across the Tuscan countryside on a bicycle just after dawn, sun-kissed hair flying behind you, sunglasses perched on your nose just so, and a book by Calvino in your little rucksack (yes, rucksack). You know what you'd have on your feet? (now $99 at Bird)

Description

Why don't I have these yet? I've been a Converse naysayer for a while now - I've always thought they make your feet look weirdly long - but after trying on a pair just now, I take it back. They run big, so you can get a half size down and make your feet look smaller, plus they are SO COMFORTABLE I AM PRACTICALLY ASLEEP. ($42 at Zappos - with free shipping! I fit in an 8, in case anyone wondered)

Ed. note: Small children in Converse = cool small children. Put Chucks on your tiny sibs!

Philip Lim Silk Blouson Sleeve Belted Dress

First to recommend

Description

That deep blue color! That deep V neck! That gorgeous little cinched waist! This is exactly the dress which I want to be wearing when I walk into a cocktail party - mysterious, modest, and sexy, with a hard edge. Sounds like a pulp paperback - but fits like a romance novel. What am I even talking about? I want this dress so much!

Sequin Jersey Dress

Description

This spring, I think nighttime is all about the solid sequin sheath. I'll pretend I didn't just conceive of that phrase, and go on to say that sequins look hot and fancy without being bridge and tunnel. That's so hot. ($85.80 at ASOS.com)

Karen Walker Floral Print Day Dress

First to recommend

Description

This is one of those dresses that makes you feel dynamite every time you put it on, because you know you look instantly sexy, put together, and ready for anything. The floral panel and cinching gives a slimming curve, the deep muted tones are sophisticated, and the gold accents make it irresistible. I want it!

Metallic Color Block Dress

First to recommend

Description

It may seem impossible to use "gold and silver lame" and "understated" in the same sentence, but this dress somehow pulls off both. The metallic combination is sexy, playful, and extremely flattering, plus the whole look is reminiscent of those crazy metallic dresses M.I.A. is rocking all over the place - see the "Jimmy" video. (on sale for $32.99 at Fred Flare)

Jones Bootmaker Swing Heels

First to recommend

Description

Made from soft kid suede, these kicky 1950's-style heels are made to look hot new and worn out from the dance floor. Why can't they make them like this anymore? These are classics from Jones Bootmaker in the UK, who've been cobbling in London since 1857, but they'll FedEx to the States. (about $60 from Jones Bootmaker)

Kate Spade Yellow Puzzle Shoes

First to recommend

Description

Nothing irritates me more than knowing that some executive in a board room somewhere looked at a design and said something like, "The 18 to 34 year old female market will be all over this" and to be incapable of proving them wrong. Foiled again. These are adorable. ($299 at Zappos.com)
