Purdy Glide Elite Paint Brush
2 people recommended this item
Description
Purdy paint brushes are in investment that will pay off immediately. I won't start a painting job now with out these brushes. Take the time to clean them well (including using a wire brush or comb to get the last of the paint out) and these will last years and many, many paint jobs.

Inglas Laminated Glass
First to recommend
Description
The one item that is holding up finishing my kitchen remodel is the counter. With delicate and expensive custom cabinets already in place, it was extremely important for me to find the 'right' match.
The most current decision was to go with micro tiles (a pain, by the way). However, if Inglas glass were readily available, I would have pursued this option. They make gorgeous laminated glass mixed with different objects and materials to create decorative surfaces that can be applied indoors or outdoors for furniture, counters, walls, railings, windows, more.
In order to save myself from another six-month delay, I did not research further how to buy this glass. For sure, my project manager (aka boyfriend) would have a heart attack. We're not talking about the bankrupt-me-budget either. Let's put it this way, it took him 3 months to get me to agree to a tile color. (via Core77)

Coat Rack Wall-Mounted
First to recommend
Description
Instead of tearing down a supporting wall, I turned the 3' eye-sore into a coat rack. Floor to ceiling wood matching the hall and kitchen. All I have to do is add some modern hooks, and the structure will look intentional. I now like this solution more than not having a structure in this space.

Japanese Bath [Cedar Hot Tub]
First to recommend
2 people recommended this item
Description
I am a little ashamed of myself... I'm sneaking in a hot tub to my kitchen remodel budget. What am I talking about? What budget? The delusional amount that I surpassed months ago?
I am a fan of Japanese hot tubs. One because they look great. I always prefer natural materials over plastic. I also like the depth of these hot tubs. It's not huge in diameter because it's designed to be deep, which allows for you to sink all the way to your chin so your entire body is submerged.
I don't know why I was expecting it to be hugely expensive. With all the required accessories, it runs about $6,000. About the same as a fancy plastic one, and maybe a little less.

Island Mounted Range Hood - "Luxor"
First to recommend
Description
October 30, 2007 | I ended up ordering this one. I took a chance. I hope it doesn't turn out too "Euro Flashy", you know... the kind that borderlines Hong Kong looking design. Not in a good way. I decided it would replace the two lights I was going to have to install above the island. And the glass is less obtrusive, creating less density above eye-level. It's important for me to obtain a lot of negative space. Frees the mind. Good Feng Shui too.
June 27, 2007 | I am stuck. I can't decide between the four styles I have posted here. This one is interesting. The hood is lit, like mood lighting. I'm having trouble deciding if this will look nice or cheesy. It can go either way... That's the problem. Hopefully nice, because at $2,500, it's a thousand more than the other ones I selected.

miele island range hood
First to recommend
Description
I didn't even know MIele made range hoods until user Todd turned me onto his Miele hood (he just finished a kitchen remodel). I love the simple, clean and modern lines with the design of Miele hoods. And I trust Miele. They make fantastic dishwashers and vacuums. In general, their quality is superior. You do pay for it though, but heck. This will probably the most expensive and last kitchen remodel I'll ever do... Might as well live it up.
Model DA403 vented.

futuro futuro island range hood
First to recommend
Description
Minimal enough to blend quietly into its environment, but handsome enough to justify its high profile space occupancy. Of all the appliances I shopped for, this was my luckiest experience. The style was very close to what I had envisioned, so I was able to eliminate the plan for a custom made range hood. And Holy Tamale! This thing is only $1,500.

Description
The red knobs sold me.
According to feng shui philosophy, the fire is one of the most important elements of the home. It signifies abundance. The stove should be the one item not under budget scrutiny.

wolf stainless steel oven
First to recommend
Description
Notice there are no visible buttons? The panel at the top rotates to hide functions when oven is not in use. How great is that?!? (I am slightly disturbed, though, the inside of the oven is a bright cobalt blue... Unfortunately, the only blue thing in this kitchen.)
30" Classic Stainless unframed.

wolf warming drawer
First to recommend
Description
Instead of two ovens, I opted for a warming drawer instead. I rarely bake, but I do try to keep food warm often. A full-sized oven is inefficient use of energy, so I went for the more sustainable choice and downgraded to a smaller, more efficient appliance.
