Tefal Quick Cup kettle
First to recommend
Description
This is the third 'eco' kettle I've used, and probably the best. It boils water instantly and by the cup, avoiding the classic Brit tea lover's mistake of overfilling the kettle just to make one cuppa and wasting electricity and water. Tefal reckons you'll use 65 per cent less electricity than a conventional kettle. I also like the sci-fi styling.

Description
We get nagged daily to save electricity, but the problem is it's invisible. Make energy visible, though, with a gadget like this handsome real-time electricity meter - it glows blue at normal electricity consumption and flashes red when you're splurging - and you'll have a daily reminder. It was the first such 'display device' that made my wife change her energy habits at home.

I'm currently wearing last season's tweed-covered recycled trainers from Worn Again, but my eye's on these new Jack ones. It's made from 99 per cent recycled material including old t-shirts and jeans.

howies - Backyard Jean

Description
I bought these organic denim jeans for everyday wear and they've not let me down. They're pretty 'straight' in the design stakes, extremely well-made and rinsed with EcoBalls rather than enzynme washing.

Kyucihi Hitman shirt

Description
Made from one hundred per cent organic cotton, this shirt just has a really nice cut. Kuyichi also prides itself on fair trading, though it doesn't have the official Fairtrade Foundation stamp for its cotton.

RE. Nice Mega CIty (not scooter or vans)
While I love this all-electric car's G-Wiz rival, if I was going to buy an electric car for London, it'd be this one. I test-drove it this summer and the interior fittings are good, the boot space is huge and the car is pure fun to drive. It's cheap to run, too, and you can fuel it for free in Westminster.

Large CurlyShade

Description
I kitted my living room out with the smaller version of this lamp shade, which is just stunning. This big version's made from 40 metres of bent Cornish Ash, which gets its green kudos from being renewable and (in the UK, at least) local.

Fito Slug Stoppa Granules

Description
I know, I know, it's sad to get obsessed about keeping slugs off your prize plants - but I love my garden! This 'barrier' defence - basically little granules you ring around your prize plants - works a treat and is fine for organic gardening. Ideally, I'd have lots of natural predators (hedgehogs, frogs) to eat the slugs, but until I become a more advanced gardener, this is the pest defence for me.

Megaman Mini CFLs - 11w DORS Dimming GU10
First to recommend
Description
IKEA-style lighting systems are everywhere in the UK, which means lots of hugely inefficient 50 watt halogen bulbs. At home, I've swapped most of them for these great mini energy-saving bulbs, which use nearly a fifth of the electricity. The quality of light is slightly different, but the level of illumination easily rivals the wasteful halogens.
