Smashbox Cosmetics - Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner

5 people recommended this item

Description

I love this stuff. Although it is by no means waterproof or smudgeprrof. Anyone who knows me knows that I am easily moved to tears. I cry just from seeing the old Bank of America commericals, movies are a given, and even reading the comics. So waterprrof is the name of my game. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a product that lives up to that promise without flaking away all day long.

So it is, Jet Set Eye Liner from Smashbox is not waterproof, nor is it smudgeproof, but it looks damn good on when it isn't being washed away. I cannot use eyepencils to line my inner lids as they cause me to itch and tear. So I was thriled to find a product that did apply beautifully, especially with the angled brush. It goes on smoothly and easily to upper and lower inner lids and makes my eyes really stand out. Even when I do not feel like wearing makeup I will line my eyes with this liner and I look super glam even when I just rolled out of bed (ok maybe a few minutes after that but don't give away my secret)! The color stauration is terrific and if you allow it to dry slightly in between applications you can get a solid lining. No other product can I line my inner upper eyelids with, especially as nicely and cleanly as I can with the brush and Jet Set Liner from Smashbox. It is available in Black, Brown, Dark Bronze, and Navy. Great product just not exactly what they advertise it to be.

You can find this at major upscale cosmetic places such as Nordstrom Sephora, even QVC or directly from Smashbox. Just watch out for knock-offs that look like the same product but what's inside is anything but the real deal. Make sure you buy it from a reputable retailer. (via Smashbox)

I'm a big fan of MAC cosmetics and Dazzleglass delivers just a little bit differently than may be expected. If you go to MAC's professional website you can find the color swatches represented best there. Rather than a representation color swatch of the actual color, the larger "swatch" is an image of the actual product along with excellent descriptions of the color. To see specifically what I'm talking about with respect to Dazzleglass, go to http://www.macpro.com/templates/collections/collection.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY27550
the main link to the MAC Pro site is at: www.macpro.com
where you can look at all lines and respective products.

One note, Dazzleglass is an edgy line in which the sparkly component called "Pearl" has the largest particles of any of the lipglass products. Nordstrom, where I buy most of my MAC product, didn't have the entire line so I ordered additional items online. My favorite of the line is Bare Necessity described as a "Caramel apricot with red and gold pearl (glitter)" and Get Rich Quick described as "Warm Yellow Brown" but fails to note that the pearl aspect is a coppery gold. The line is fun and contemporary and especially great for going out on the town. For those who work in anything less than conservative professional environments, you can probably get away with wearing Dazzleglass at work.

Laura Geller "Cheek Stay" in universal color "Just Pinched" (aka "Tint Hint" from Sephora)

First to recommend

Description

Cheek and lips stains can be found just about anywhere cosmetics are sold. Formulas vary from petrolatum-based to silicone-based and everything in between, or some combination thereof. For those with combo to oily skin who must stay as far away from cream blushes that inevitably clog pores and trigger breakouts, Laura Geller's water-based Just Pinched Cheek Stay is the perfect product.

Laura Geller's Cheek Stay beautifully "stains" my lips (yes, my lips too!) with that just...that "just arrived" color. To keep it clean, it's as though eating a perfectly ripe dark cherry colored popsicle left just enough color on my lips to give them that beautiful youthful luscious color. Although it isn't marketed as a lip stain I love dual use products and I couldn't find any ingredient that this product couldn't be used on the lips as well, but don't take my word for it, ask a professional if you're unsure.

For an "au natural" makeup look I will stain my lips and swipe with any SPF 15 clear, or slightly tinted, gloss. Then reapplying gloss without a mirror is a no brainer since the stain is already there. Although the water-based stain requires occasional reapplication on the lips from exposure to drinks, licking the lips, or (gasp!) kissing, application to the cheeks need only be done in the morning and you're off for the day, unless of course you're swimming or sweating heavily from exercise or athletic play. The color is sheerer than it appears to be in the bottle and if you want a heavier look, say for evening, you can build it up in layers.

May 2008 - Pricing is speculative, even when purchased directly from Geller's retail website. Search "Cheek Stay" on her site and you get two results, neither of which state container size: one in a "teen section" for $21 and one in general section for $23 for what looks to be the exactly same sized container. You can purchase a .17 oz. container from QVC for $16 (plus 4.97 shipping for the 1st container and less for ordering two or more in the same order). Before the larger sizes were available for purchase, I bought five .17 bottles from QVC to minimize shipping and make sure I wouldn't run out, ever! It is unclear whether the container sizes are the same from LauraGeller.com and QVC, although I would surmise that the higher prices coming direct from Geller's retail website would indicate a larger size bottle, such as the one sold at Sephora.com.

Update: I noticed that Sephora.com is selling the same Laura Geller product under the slighty different name, Tint Hint, in the same universal color "Just Pinched" at a cost of $22.50 for a .39 oz. container. Role over the image above and you will see where I included a copy of the product image carried at Sephora vs. the main image of the container from LauraGeller.com and QVC.com.
