Burning Man Shopping List - a list by MeganInMunich

About this list:
For my first year at Burning Man I wore jean cut-offs and tank tops and ended up under a shelter made of plastic garbage bags. Why suffer such a learning curve? Steal my ideas, gain from my experience. Countdown to burn time. Time to start shopping! (2009: still updating three years later!)

Gray (Duct) Tape - 2in. x 60 Yard Length

Description
Long before Homeland Security started singing its praises, Burning Man people were using duct tape. Cars, tents, costumes, shoes... It. Fixes. Everything. You must always have some on hand.

Nose Pit mask

Description
I haven't tried them yet, but I've seen them on the Playa. Basically a filter that you shove in your nostrils to block the dust. This could prove handy for normal days out and about.
For dust storms I still recommend hunkering down and covering up.

Description
Someone built a better mousetrap.
Meet Gorilla tape, the 'new' fixes-everything-duct-tape alternative. For high heat and dusty conditions that normally ruin other tape's stickiness, employ this bad boy instead. Tent fabric, car bumpers, bricks and metal - this thing can handle it all. Add this to your Burning Man tool bag. This stuff comes with a price demanding respect so keep the duct tape handy for less demanding work like bundling tarps and rugs for storage or that spur of the moment duct tape bra (this one will remove skin if left on too long).

3M 2120 Scotch Transparent High Performance Duct Tape
2 people recommended this item
Description
This new transparent duct tape tears easier, doesn't tend to wrinkle or bunch and blends into its surroundings instead of ruining the look of your glitter bike or art car. It also stands up better to the elements than its silver cousin. Add this to your Burning Man tool bag arsenal.
Could also be an interesting twist to the duct tape bra, but I would try that one out at home beforehand. (via not martha (another Megan!))

Not all of us were Boy Scouts or Blue Birds or in the Marines. We don't do knots, and with these you don't have to. Bring plenty, you'll find yourself using them on things you never dreamed of (no, not that... well maybe).

Mess with their minds a little. With a bag of this in your camel back, you're ready to wow and amaze all those Burners with 'heightened senses'. Where ever a fire is burning you can be a god in a second. Just sprinkle a few fingers' full onto the flames and watch their eyes bulge when the yellow orange flames turn bright blue! Be sure to stay upwind.
