Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Xbox 360

Description
Infinity Ward takes it back the drawing board and raise from the ashes with their reinvented ip, Call of Duty. Last year offering was a sad introduction into the series, a game developed by Treyarch, the group also responsible for COD:Big Red One. COD4 hits a graphics benchmark with its new engine with support for lush environments, updated texture and normal mapping for skin and clothing, and new algorithms for smoke and particle effects. Sadly, except for the standard fair of destructible cars, small "havok" based objects, and large amount of bullet decals. The interaction with the levels are fairly basic, including the lack of what should be standard feature in a shooter..."Can we say, Cover System!". Despite that the single player campaign is cinematic and non-stop action from bullet casting to the last cliffhanger.Although, short...5-8 hours playing time, I have to say that most Hollywood blockbuster lack the intense action and storyline found this game. The game also supports a healthy level up system(online only), realistic gun play including the ability to update weapons with mods, and arcade mode for fun after first-time play thurs. Some minor notes include small amount of game variants, online leveling only, and no co-op online or off, and a single-level setting of veterans that may frustrated most players. Break the wallet open for this one, you will have fun.

Heavenly Sword : PlayStation 3

Description
Lush Environments, polygonal goodness shaped into a heavenly body, massive armies of soldiers makes for what you would except to be a impressive game. Playing through Heavenly Sword, I can only say that I was disappoint with this product. Not because the game was not entertaining and fun, but more because the game never showed its true potential. It is beyond me why game developers never look at the progress that other developers have made in this genre. As a combat platformer this title could learn so much from games like God of War and Tomb Raider. That stuff aside "HS" sets a new standard for cinema story telling in gaming, which in my opinion one of the best and colorful bad guys in film or games. Other notable feature include great use of the motion controller functions of the PS3, event-based game play, and the ability to play other character in the story arc. Be prepared however, this game can be beat in one sitting and offers very little replay value. I think of Heavenly Sword as that one game you play when you have beating everything else. Fun, entertaining, but just not enough to gain front-row in my entertainment center stack.

Unreal Tournament III

Description
It has been a while since I picked up a epic game involving the UT ip. UT3 is damn pretty, of course being powered by Epic own Unreal engine helps. The problem with this game is that there is so much of the design taken from Gears of War that this installment in some ways feel like a mod of the former instead of a fresh game. Design elements aside, UT3 mixes up the formula enough to keep all the game modes fresh as you play. Add on top of that the new fully fleshed out single player campaign and you got a game that it well worth the buy. It's sad that the PS3 version doesn't come with the unreal editor, however PC people will be happy modding away for both PC and PS3 maps. Good Times...
