Portable Media Players I'm Thinking of Buying - a list by joe

About this list:

I have a nice, self-powered speaker system in my bedroom now. I just need a music player to hook up to it and also to bring to work. I would like it to support formats free of intellectual property encumbrances, such as flac and ogg. It needs to have wi-fi, and it needs to be able to play the mp3 stream my slimserver outputs.

Description

The iPod touch is soo sweet! My friend got one with her laptop purchase and I tried it out. It has everything an iPhone does except it doesn't make calls. Perfect if you don't want to switch to At&T but love the features of the iPhone. A great gift, too.

I'm sick of my treo crashing. The OpenMoko platoform is based on linux.

I can't type fast enough on the iPhone's on-screen keyboard. The OpenMoko phone supports Bluetooth, so I assume it will accept input from a HID keyboard.

I need a wi-fi mp3 player for the bedroom. Perhaps the music player the community is planning to build will work.
