DJ Rap - Up All Night

Description

While her name originally turned me off (DJ Rap), her newest album “Up All Night” definitely turned me on. I am a bit of an Electonica junky; House, Trance, Breakbeat, DnB (Drum & Bass), Downtempo, Broken Beat, Nu Jazz, you name it. DJ Rap’s new album is definitely in heavy rotation at the moment. The Drum and Bass she mixes isn’t hardcore, which is nice as I like a lot of the Drum and Bass elements; hard bass lines, sultry vocals, high BPM’s and the list can go on. DJ Rap has spun this album with a complicated soundscape that is mesmerizing. At one end, you have the high BPM’s (Beats Per Minute), then at the other end, the other layers are much more mellow, calm and soothing. Up All Night is a very intelligent DnB album. At times, the feeling I have been getting from it is best described as being the driver of a Formula 1 race car during a race and at the same time seeing everything going by you in slow motion.

Madvillain (Madvillainy)

5 people recommended this item

Description

Madvillain.... Man... First... MF Doom, then Madlib.... This is a very beat conscious album. For those who enjoy amazing turntablists and lyricist, this album is a must have. I am still blown away and have not stopped playing this album.

If you are a fan of Underground Hip Hop or more beat conscious and flow orientated Hip Hop, then you should really pick up this album. If you enjoy listening to artist like Wax Tailor, Madlib, Count Bass D, RJD2, Z-Trip or even Ugly Duckling, then you will definitely enjoy Madvillain.

Recently, I have been listening to a lot of Funk and Soul. "What It Is! Funky Soul and Rare Grooves" is now constantly playing. The Beastie Boys - The In Sound from Way Out!

Description

The Beastie Boys' "The In Sound from Way Out!" is by far, my favorite Beastie's album. The album is completely instrumental and shows the versatility the Beastie Boys have in composing and sampling music. The album is very chill, groovy, jazzy and soulful.

JBL On Stage Speakers for iPod

5 people recommended this item

Description

The JBL "On Stage" is a perfect desk accessory. Not only does the On Stage have the capacity to be used with your iPod, it can also be plugged into the speaker jack on your laptop or computer. The On Stage is constantly sitting next to my laptop so that I can bypass the week laptop speakers and listen to my music loud and clear. Besides being the perfect desk accessory, the On Stage travels well and is extremely easy to use while traveling. The On Stage goes every where we (GF & myself) go.

MF DOOM - Special Herbs The Box Set

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

MF DOOM is one of the greatest turntablist of all time. Special Herbs has become of one of my top ten albums of all time as well. The albums is very beat conscious and soulful. The albums are instrumental only and are very well constructed (for lack of a better term). The version on Amazon isn't the full set. You can download the full box set from emusic.com and get all 82 tracks. The full album name is "MF DOOM - Metalfingers Presents - Special Herbs The Box Set Vol. 0-9".

While MF DOOM isn't going to be on every bodies play list, it is a must for those fans of Hip Hop and turntablism. I recommend this album for fans of DJ Shadow, Madlib, Wax Tailor, DJ Greyboy, DJ Babu, Tribe Called Quest, Blackalicious and Underground Hip Hop.

Nouvelle Vague - Bande a Part

First to recommend

4 people recommended this item

Description

While I'm not a big fan of artists that do covers, Nouvelle Vague's Bande a Part has become an exception. The album is exceptional. The music style is "Bossa Nova" and their spin on the covers they did are amazing. I still have not been able to identify who does the female vocals, but they are seductive, sultry and just absolutely beautiful. If you are a fan of Bossa, this is a must have album.

Favorite Tracks:
The Killing Moon - Originally recorded by Echo and the Bunnymen
Dancing With Myself - Originally recorded by Billy Idol
Heart of Glass - Originally recorded by Blondie
Let Me Go - Originally recorded by Heaven 17

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Box Set Original Recording Remastered

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

There are those artists, such as Jimi, that all you want to say is, "What?" What kind of review do you want? Jimi not only completely shattered what "Rock N Roll" was then, his sound has continued to shatter that same image today. The absolute mind meting guitar playing has continued to stump artists to this day.

While I have added this collection, please don't let it sway you from buying other albums. This is what I would consider the best comprised collection for Jimi. While I own a plethora of Jimi's albums, this is the best one off selection a person can get.

Psychedelic, mind opening, mind transforming, uplifting, I wish I could think of more analogies. For those fans of classic rock, or those people that would like to know where it all was rooted from, pick up this album.

Description

The ultimate performer when it comes to Industrial/Alternative music. Trent Reznor is one of my all time favorite performers. Pretty Hate Machine, one of my all time favorite albums. What else can you say about an artist that does ALL the instruments for one full album and then mixes them so eloquently throughout the entire album? Hands down one of the best Industrial albums of all time!

Frank Sinatra - Complete Reprise Studio Record Collection (Deluxe Edition)

First to recommend

Description

While this actual collection is on my ultimate wish list. Frank Sinatra, Old Blue Eyes the Chairman of the Board is one of my all time favorite artists. The simple, sweet, melodic sound of his voice entranced me from the very beginning. Frank's songs, can take you through the most up lifting moments (Fly Me to the Moon) to the lowest moments (Send in the Clowns). The ultimate crooner has always put his best foot forward and put out great music. He sang with the greatest "Big Bands", duets and friends.

I valued the music and also the person. Frank is by any means, a must have in a music lover's collection.
