J Boogie's Dubtronic Science (Om Records)

First to recommend

Description

J-Boogie`s Dubtronic Science brings you Smokin` Hip Hop Grooves and Sexy Dub Beats! Featuring an all start line up of guest vocalists including People Under the Stairs, Goapele, Capital A, Raashan of Crown City Rockers and Gina Rene of Soulstice among others ... Boogie lays down the groove with heavy beats, upright bass, trumpet, flute and keys dancing with perfectly placed cuts.

For those that are beat conscious and like to have the air filled with smart, sexy and smooth beats, groove, dub and vocals then J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science is a must have for any music collection. If you have a chance to see them perform (more than likely at the Elbow Room in S.F.) then go as the show is amazing!

If you get a chance, check out the other artists on Om Records. A few of my suggestions;
Kaskade
Groove Junkies
King Kooba
Mark Farina
Rithma

St. Elsewhere: Gnarls Barkley

11 people recommended this item

Description

Just one year after the success of the Gorillaz project, Danger Mouse was back in the charts with another collaboration project, Gnarls Barkley, with singer Cee-Lo Green (a solo artist and former member of Atlanta's Goodie Mob).

It's rap, it's alternative, it's fantastically energetic and intelligent - GET IT!

Mos Def - Black on Both Sides

Description

Mos Def is one of my favorite Hip Hop artists. Black on Both Sides explores social issues while at the same time including thought provoking lyrics funky beats and an amazing amount of flow through out the entire album. The album is definitely not a "Rap" album. As I listen heavily to Hip Hop that focuses more on beats and flow, Mos Def has become a staple.

For those of you that are just opening your mind to different music genres and are going to give Hip Hop a listen, pick up Black on Both Sides as I know you will not be disappointed. Highlight tracks include; Ms. Fat Booty, Umi Says, Speed Law, New World Water and Mathematics.

The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld by The Orb

3 people recommended this item

Description

The Orb is truly a pioneer when it comes to electronica. This is the album that got me hooked on ambient and dub. The whole album is truly amazing and the two best tracks would be "Little Fluffy Clouds" and "Perpetual Dawn". If you are looking for an introduction to ambient and dub, then definitely pick up this album. (via gordon)

Bad Religion - 80-85

First to recommend

Description

Bad Religion is a staple in any Punk music collection. I feel that "80-85" (or the remastered How Could Hell Be Any Worse) encompasses the best of Bad Religion. 80-85 has the old school Punk sound and the lyrics that force the listener to address some of the issues of that time.

Some of my favorite tracks:
Latch Key Kids
White Trash (2nd Generation)
Voice Of God Is Government
Drastic Action

If you listen to Punk, whether it be the old school CBGB Punk sound or the new "Bubble Gum" Punk sound, 80-85 should be in your collection.

Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia Headphones

First to recommend

Description

I was looking for some in-the-ear headphones to use while jogging and other activities. Granted, the headphones are any where near a $200+ set of headphones. The sound is crisp, the bass is above decent and I am very pleased. The headphones come with three different sides of ear buds as well. Bonus of it all is they cost under $40, so if you are looking for some in-the-ear headphones to use during exercise or other activities, then I would suggest giving the Fontopia headphones a shot. Sony: MDR-V300 Headphones

Description

Great headphones for basic use. These go with me every where. The plain, train, automobile and snowboard. They are light so you don't notice them most of the time. The sound is great. You can feel the bass when you want to, and also tone out the annoying little brat(s) sitting in front of you when you want. One of the best set of headphones that are around $50. (via Sony)
