Working Wardrobe - a list by blakeycb

About this list:
As a recent college graduate, I spend a lot of hours staring blankly at things: Monster.com, my father when he comes home and asks me if I got a job today, the numbers ticking on the fuel pump as I fill the tank of my 99 Ford Explorer. One of the biggest hurdles in my life right now my closet. So I decided to make a list of some possible work outfits/key pieces. there are enough reasons for a 25 yr old unemployed college grad to have a mid life crisis - what to wear shouldn't be one of them.

Hanky Panky Signature Lace Low Rise Thong

Description
My friend, Bailey, started working at a boutique when we were seniors at Duke and she told me that once you go hanky panky, you can't imagine wearing anything else. at 18 dollars a pair, it seems a little ridiculous at first, but they are the most comfortable undies, if not thong, you'll ever wear/try/become addicted to. i also love their boyshorts for under short skirts/sleepy wear... they are super comfy and flattering, even tho they are boyshorts, which usually make me look/feel like a heffer. yep, i'm the only 24 year old in the world who is without a bb. i want a semi-older one because i need the side-scroll thingy... i had a Dell with the trackball in the middle and it drove me nuts... no way i could deal with that on a tiny bb.

Classic A-line skirt: Banana Republic
First to recommend
Description
I went to boarding school, so we had to be in "dress code" for about 4/5 of the year - when there was 6ft of snow on the ground, they weren't quite as tough about it - but i still had to find lots of good basics that could take a beating. banana republic makes good, conservative, a-line skirts every season - i buy khaki and black religiously once a year- and they are great for all occasions. and at 79 dollars (but they do go on sale - i've gotten some of the "spring" colors like sky blue and key lime pie as low as 24.99), the price point is on point. Lacoste Short Sleeve Stretch Pique Polo

Another bi-product of boarding school - too many Lacoste polos. we were required to wear "collars" or tnecks all year round, so i have an obscene amount of these and RL Polo oxfords. tho they have a bratty stigma, having a black and/or a white at your disposal is very handy - they can be worn under blazers, paired with almost anything, and are really comfy. i prefer the new 4 button stretch ones (i have big boobs, they fit better than the 2 button on me), but the two button is classic. tho the black/white/navy/basic colors rarely go on sale, the seasonal festive colors do go on sale, so maybe scoop up a bright blue or green to add some punch to the black/espresso/khaki suit basics... J.Crew Cotton Jackie shell
First to recommend
Description
People hate on twinsets, and sure, they are kind of lame, but for the recent grad/entry-level girl, they are super practical and a great bang for your buck. Together, they say "i'm super organized and anal and just the person you want doing your schedule" or "i would NEVER use my company cell phone to make personal calls". The cardigan can be worn on top of other shirts/substituted for a blazer in a more casual office; the shell can be worn alone in the summer/warmer climates and is much more formal than a tshirt. plus, for 42 dollars for the shell and 62 dollars for the cardigan, its a great investment, especially in this pretty royal purple or classic black.
