The Wisdom of the Chinese Kitchen: Classic Family Recipes for Celebration and Healing

First to recommend

Description

This recipes in this cookbook aren't the recipes you'd find in your usual Mongolian-Beef-Kung-Pao-Chicken-Egg-Rolls Chinese cookbook. Instead, what you'll find are traditional recipes usually cooked in Chinese homes: rice porridge, steamed pork with salted duck egg, even herbal soups. Grace Young also tells a story in each chapter about why the recipes are such an important part of her family's life--stories that I can definitely relate to as a Chinese-American.

Description

Intelligent cookbook. Science, skillful tips and excellent recipes pared down to the significant and "best" ingredients. Allows creativity because the recipes aren't blogged down with non-essential extras.

The book that launched Anthony Bourdain into fame. It's a little over-the-top machismo, but a fun romp in the kitchen nevertheless.

Description

you HAVE to love a cookbook that insults you. anthony bourdain is such a sarcastic wonderful chef, and if you've read his other books you know what you're in for with this tome. he calls pearl onions "little f*ckers"... i LOVE that! and yes, wonderful bistro recipes.
