Description
To add a bit of perspective to this designer water collection, while we marvel at all the different ways water can be presented to us as a lifestyle product, there are billions of people, that not only can't afford a bottle of water on a salary of a dollar a day, but don't even have access to safe water to drink.
This is where Lifestraw comes in, as one of the products that was specifically designed to resolve that problem. Shaped like and oversize straw, the system works in realtime, which means that all you have to do is find water, put one end in the water, your lips at the other end, and drink potable water free of germs and other contaminants.
The lifestraw can filter 700 litres, or a single person's need for a year. (via oO's very eclectic)

Smart Strip Power Strip w/ Fax & Modem Protection - LCG4
2 people recommended this item
Description
The Smart Power Strip completely turns off the power supply to electronics when they're not in use. This eliminates the "phantom power" that many electronics draw, which costs money. The strip works by designating one outlet as the "Control" outlet (where you might plug in your PC power cord or TV). Whenever the electronic device that is plugged into that outlet is turned off, the power strip will turn off and cut off power to any peripherals (such as a monitor, printer, speakers, and scanner with a PC, or a VCR, DVD player, and video game system with a TV). I have 2 of these Smart Power Strips, one for my PC desk and one for my living room entertainment center. Not only do the strips save me money, but they also help keep my apartment cooler in the summer because the electronics aren't constantly generating phantom heat while consuming phantom power.

Patagonia Women's Synchilla Vest
First to recommend
Description
Patagonia is collecting used clothing (regardless of brand) made from Polartec and Capilene to melt and make into new fabric and clothes. (Some of that fleece is especially virtuous, starting out as fabric made from recycled plastic.) The company estimates that making polyester fiber out of recycled garments, compared with using new polyester, will result in a 76% energy savings and reduce greenhouse gases 71%. To shear your own fleece, visit patagonia.com/recycle.

carry grocery bags and multiple items with ease and comfort
2 people recommended this item
Description
The plastic bags you bring home from the supermarket probably end up in a landfill. Every year, more than 500 billion plastic bags are distributed, and less than 3% of those bags are recycled. They are typically made of polyethylene and can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade in landfills that emit harmful greenhouse gases. Reducing your contribution to plastic-bag pollution is as simple as using a cloth bag (or one made of biodegradable plant-based materials) instead of wasting plastic ones. For your next trip to the grocery store, BYOB.
