Closet Organization for the Fashion Obsessed - a list by LaurenMessiah

About this list:

I have a lot of clothes, no really a lot. My closet used to be my favorite place to be in my house (yeah I would just hang out in there) but recently it is overrun with new purchases and just a lot of fashionable clutter. In '08 I am determined to organize it the right way and make a beautifil place to hang out again. I might even find some clothes that I haven't worn yet. Yes I do still have clothes in my closet with tags attached ... it's a sickness.

Practical Princess Ltd Shoe Drawer

Description

I have been searching for a shoe organization solution and I think I just found it.

I have done the clear plastic box thing which is good in theory but those boxes come in all different sizes and lid colors which didn't look so hot in my closet. I then added snapshots of my shoes to the boxes which looked nice for all of 5 minutes until the edges of the photos started to curl. I ended up ditching the boxes.

Next I made myself a "shoe shelf" but let's face it, I have too many shoes for a shelf and all of my glorious shoes weren't visible and if I can't see it -- I forget I own it.

I really that these boxes will solve all of my problems. The look great and have a small area for a photo. You can also purchase the software to properly upload your shoe photos to fit the box format. (via Fab Sugar)

Slimline Hangers from Bed Bath & Beyond

9 people recommended this item

Description

These hangers are awesome! They take up less space and keeps your clothes from slipping off the hangers. My Mom just picked up 2 packs of 10 and they look great in her closet. I plan on picking up a pack of 50 to add to my closet.

Bed Bath & Beyond Product- Flocked Pant Hangers

First to recommend

Description

I picked up a 3 pack of these hangers at Bed Bath and Beyond and I love them. Each hanger holds up to 4 pairs of paints. The flocked velvety finish keeps your pants and skirts from slipping and the ultra slim design takes up less room in your closet. I plan on buying more of these, totally love them.

Practical Princess Ltd Shoe Label Software

Description

Brilliant I tells ya! I tried the whole take a picture of your shoes and it was fine for a while but in the end it didn't work. The photos were too big for the boxes, then the photos started to curl and come off of the box -- it was a mess.

This software has some to the rescue. Usually when I hear the word "software" I curl up in a ball and start screaming, things I add to my computer scares the crap out of me. However if you link the idea of software with shoe organization I am totally on board.

Black/Chrome Dual Expandable Garment Rack

First to recommend

Description

My closet(s) ... I have three .... got out of hand and it couldn't house all of clothes so I had to come up with a solution. My solution was to get a garment rack and turn my office area into a little "boutique." It looks pretty awesome actually. I have my desk, dress form, sewing machine, and this rack filed with my favorite dresses. It's great because I have so many crazy dresses that I really don't get to wear but I sure do love to look at them. Now my pretty dresses are out for the world to see and easy to get to if I ever decide to wear them.

3-Tier Hanging Wire Sweater Bins

First to recommend

Description

I love how they show this shelf holding like 4 sweaters, makes me laugh because I have managed to jam about 30 pairs of jeans into this sucker! I am sure that is not recommended practice for one of these but I am just saying -- it works.

This shelf is very sturdy, easy to assemble and an affordable space spacer.

Chrome Belt & Accessory Ring

Description

This isn't the exact belt organizer that I bought ( I can't find that one online) but this is a watered down version of it, probably perfect for those of you who own a "normal" amount of belts. My belt hanger is like this one times 10 ... literally. It is a big hanger with ten of these loops hanging from it and I hung about 10 belts from each loop -- yes I have that many belts. Like I said ... I have a sickness.

Side note - when hanging that many belts be careful of where you hang the hook. I hung it in a not-so-sturdy spot, that bad boy feel and I almost lost a toe.

Large Nested Woven Nylon Bins

First to recommend

Description

I don't have a dresser so I rely on these bins to hold things like my socks, undies, pajamas and leg warmers (yep, I have a bin devoted to leg warmers). I have 6 of these bins and if you go to places like TJ Maxx or Marshall's you can find them in fun patterns. I have 3 in black and white damask and 3 that are pink argyle, the price is around $12.99 for a large bin and $7.99 for a small if you get them at the Maxx.

Translucent Stack Drawers

First to recommend

Description

I won't say that these are the best drawers in the world but for the price they are just right. I have one set in my bathroom for my hair stuff and extra towels and another set in my closet for my gym clothes and tee shirts. One day I will step it up and get the Elfa brand drawers or really splurge and get a dresser, but for now these are fine with me.

Rowenta Garment Steamer

Description

Let's get one thing straight ... Fashion Kitty doesn't iron, she steams. Dragging out an iron seems so 1950's and that is a little too retro for me. This steamer is great -- it heats up in minutes and gets all of the wrinkles out of your clothes. I can honestly say it was the best $50 I ever spent.
