Stir, sip, repeat: This, friends, is how to enjoy an unstrained cocktail... like my newest favorite concoction/creation, the Venice Mule. Keep the Moscow Mule's vodka and lime (bitters are optional here), but rather than than ginger ale go with crushed ginger root, soda water and simple syrup... and whatever else you can find in the fridge (lemongrass, chili pepper, strawberry, peach, cilantro, mint and lemon have all made special guest appearances). That's the Venice part: half hippietarian, half scavenger, still a little bitter.

Home tap for your mini keg. Does anyone other than Heineken make mini kegs of this size? I feel like I've seen them for some Japanese beers... I feel like pouring friends beers from this thing might earn me decent tips. I wonder if they have a backpack version...

This eggcup militia gets "A" for effort but I have a feeling they're no match for the bread soldiers on the march. Love this - especially because we are dedicated soft-boiled egg breakfasters. And because OUR soldiers are elite egg-killing Green Berets I'm not too worried these guys are going to get in our way. (via Notcot)

The Blue Steel of thermoses, which is to say, sporting of a markedly hotter look than all others combined.
An excellent long-weekend companion... Would travel with it if the dumb airlines did not mistake we self hydrationists for terrorists. Settle for using it on car trips, bike trips and beach trips. Probably would keep a few martinis chillaxed. And inspire partakers to flash a few Blue Steels of their own.

St. Germain, c'est chouette. Made of Elderflowers from les Alpes, it adds perfumed complexity to martinis, especially those with fresh juice, and to tequila and rum cocktails. And to breakfast, cheris. After all, a liquor named for the most bohemian arrondissement should be enjoyed in nothing but a bohemian manner.

XXL Tapatio... extra awesome. I've always wanted to steal a grande bottle of Tapatio from a taco truck. And, of course, I never ever would; not only do I not steal (bad juju) , but I couldn't live with the thought of having deprived others of its tangy goodness... and now that LA taco trucks are getting the heat, they need all the help they can get (La Oaxacatena, we're rooting for you to keep your Rose/Lincoln corner).
Which reminds: last time we were there, we heard a very confused (stoned) kid try to order a taco burrito. Taco burrito? Rich.

In Defense of Food, a good-for-you and good-for-earth eater's manifesto from food intellectual Michael Pollan who, last weekend in NYT's Sunday mag, recommended that we all grow some of our own food and, several weeks ago, said that rising grain prices aren't the worst thing because maybe, if we're lucky, people will eat fewer Cheeto's. (Or something like that)

Perfectly fussily French, Ciroc is distilled five times. Five times! It's made of grapes. And of magic, both in that I've never had a vodka quite like this and it's known for pulling quite the disappearing act.
