Ohne Titel (Klagewand08) by Ralph Gutsmann

First to recommend

Description

One of a few very powerful one-off handmade collages by Ralph Gutsmann at the Riot Arts Street-art online shop.

While the wild paintings by this artist are impressive enough, the collages he makes in great numbers are in a class of their own.

Street-art Shrine by Sztuka Fabryka

First to recommend

Description

Titled 'Non Omnis Moriar'. I spotted this series at Sztuka Fabryka's Flickr pages, I'm glad to see they can be had at 100 Artworks.

This is so cool because it shows the connection between Street-art and Mail-art. Also, it's innovative: it goes way beyond the expected "urban" cliché of Street-art, as it is about a disappearing rural tradition, folklore and folk-art (via Sztuka Fabryka's Flickr Pages)

Paper Mache Figure by Mumbreeze

First to recommend

Description

Like many of their Japanese artist colleagues, Mumbreeze (Kinya and Kao Hanada) (Portland, Oregon, USA & Japan) achieve a kind of hip traditionalism in their art, full of wild uninhibited inventiveness.

Made with recycled material and paper mache. In the words of the artists, "these animal figures are envisioned as spirits of animals rather than actual animals made with refuse of human civilization".

They are noted to resemble Japanese religious icons like the pre-Buddhist Haniwa funeral figures from ancient Japan. Haniwa imagery has found its way into pop culture, notably Manga. While citing the traditions of chimera and Haniwa, these sculptures also allude to modern themes like comics, pop culture and genetic engineering.

35cm Length, 9cm wide, 26cm tall. 125 USD. Figures start at 25 USD at the artist's Etsy shop. (via Mumbreeze)

Sarah Palin Triclops - Cheap-art Oil Painting by Jeremiah Palecek

First to recommend

Description

Not only are Jeremiah Palecek's paintings highly influenced by the Internet's images, the artist also prefers to use the 'net for selling his art, weaving a web of information and publicity around several sites and blogs. Faux-naif, and smartly bridging the digital VS hand-made divide, the young Czech artist's paintings are rapidly becoming fashionable..

I love their accessibility, and the way the artist presents them as just another mail order consumer product without any pretensions whatsoever, while you just can sense how really good they are.

"Megaman" Cross Stitch Pin by Pixelbit

First to recommend

Description

Pixelbit makes these utterly cute and affordable one-off cross-stitched pins, all influenced by video games/anime/manga imagery. The artist does custom designs as well!

I discovered her work on Flickr, and I'm following it there, but she runs an Etsy shop too, filled with real fresh and unique cross stitch pieces. (via Pixelbit's Flickr Pages)

"One Pathan to Telelift Up Sir" Fine Art Print by Kenny Irwin

First to recommend

Description

Palm Spring artist Kenny Irwin aims to connect Eastern and Western concepts in his seemingly loony yet ultimately smart and informed art.
Basically he is using science fiction and Bollywood-like fantasies as social commentary.

His prints are available in a variety of formats through Red Bubble.

Include Me Out Plate #2

First to recommend

Description

Tulip Art Projects' "Ceramixed Plates" are available at the New Museum Store, New York.

They come in hand made stenciled packages with certificate of origin, and are available (for now) at only 94 USD each from the New Museum Store's website and NYC shop.

Hand-painted on porcelain, and inscribed with "Include Me Out", they thematize social (self)exclusion, sexuality and multiculturalism.

The New Museum Store stocks finest giftables, (artist) editions and books from around the world. Its proceeds go directly to furthering the New Museum's artistic and educational programs, which will be greatly enlarged in its stylish new building in Downtown New York.

Apart from presenting books and editions by noted artists like Jeff Koons, Jack Pierson and Zoe Leonard, the New Museum Store stays true to its credo of presenting the under-represented: in its range of "artist-made products" it treads where few museum shops dare to tread, directly supporting emerging artists.
