Game, Set and Match - a list by hanahula

About this list:

Professional tennis, much like professional golf, is played year-round, with players following the warm weather from Australia to France to Wimbledon to the USA with oodles of smaller tournaments in between. And while some may think that watching tennis is akin to watching the grass grow on the court, I love nearly everything about the game, its etiquette, dress code and larger-than-life player personalities.

Qualifications:

I just gave myself an upgrade from a junior racket.

RalphLauren: Women's US Open Ball Girl Skirt

First to recommend

Description

Although "tennis whites" are no longer a requirement for either men or women on most courts, I still love tennis skirts and dresses. Putting on the right gear is half the fun for me (as I know it is for Venus and Serena Williams.) So, who is still in the running after the fourth round of women's singles matches? Elena Dementieva (Russia), Jelena Jankovic (Serbia), Sybille Bammer (Austria), Patty Schnyder (Switzerland), Flavia Pennetta (Italy), and Dinara Safina (Russia). Fourth-round play scheduled for today: Venus Williams (USA) versus Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland), and Serena Williams (USA) versus Severine Bremond (France). Both Venus and Serena Williams will play their fourth round matches today, Monday, September 1, 2008.

Tenniseum: The Roland Garros Museum

Description

Providing guided tours of the Roland Garros complex (home of the French Open) as well as a multimedia center and library dedicated to tennis history both past and present, this is an experience dedicated to tennis players and tennis fans the world over. And, so, who will play for the U.S. in Beijing this year ? The women: Lindsay Davenport, Liezel Huber, Serena Williams and Venus Williams. The men: Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, James Blake, Robby Ginepri and Sam Querrey. Roger Federer (Switzerland) and Maria Sharapova (Russia) will also be present to give us a run for our gold.

Lacoste: Tennis Dress w/Detachable Flower

First to recommend

Description

Congratulations to Venus Williams on her victory over sister Serena at Center Court, Wimbledon, London, England on July 5, 2008 ! Although Venus has her own line of clothing (created in collaboration with Steve and Barry's), I think she would love this black and white dress from Lacoste. (Congratulations to Lacoste, as well, on the occasion of their 75th year of superb tennis tailoring.) I look forward to seeing what the Williams sisters will do next, both on and off the court.

Description

Chris Wilton (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) works his way up the English social ladder with the assistance of his past life as a professional tennis player. Unfortunately, tennis taught him more about the importance of winning than it did about being a good sport. The question then becomes how far will this win-at-all-costs lifestyle take him?

Description

Professional tennis doesn't leave much time for fun . . . or love. But when a player who is down and nearly out meets a rising star, the two challenge each other both personally and athletically. And, in the end, both winning and losing are a part of the bargain.

Ring-Spun Bath Towels by Lacoste

First to recommend

Description

Although a monogram is always a great way to stylize a towel, I love the way the little alligator emblem on these towels gives an extra oomph! to every color in which this towel is available. Buy two sets: one for your gym bag and one for home. (By the way, Rene Lacoste won a crocodile bag for besting an opponent more than 75 years ago. And so the crocodile became his victory sign . . . and the unique logo it remains to this day.)

Almost time for me to break out my tennis racket again . . . and I actually do need a case. Something sassy will work really well given the way I play. :-D

Description

As sleek and stylish as this racket is, it is no poser. Based upon the design of the Babolat PureDrive 107, the graphite frame is light, durable and powerful. You may not be a tennis prodigy, but this racket will at least provide you with some superior equipment. (via Sybarites)
