Fiskars Pruning Stick
First to recommend
Description
This is an added luxury to own. It is a tool that's in between a lopper and a tree pruner. It allows me to reach about 7'-8' without ladder or an extended pole, which, if you are short, is very difficult to balance.
The Fiskars one is unique and works super well. I was able to prune some pretty large branches with them. And they also work well trimming smaller bushes. It's not required for the yard, but like I said, a luxury if you can afford it.

Paper Refuse Bags

Description
Recycled and biodegradable. Super strong paper bags that can go beyond refuse. I currently have ten bags temporarily storing lava rocks.
You can also use the thrashed ones as lawn liners to prevent weed growth. Great trick. These will decompose faster than regular cardboard boxes.

Contractor Wheelbarrow
First to recommend
Description
This is the handiest item for yard work. The single wheel makes it easy to maneuver heavy loads like rocks or dirt. I use it for lighter things because I'm small. But even with a two-wheeler, I still depend on this unit.
It's important to buy the metal one if possible. It will be much more durable and will last longer sitting outside.

Fiskars Bypass Lopper

Description
One of my favorite tools. The name lopper seems so appropriate because when you do cut with these, they actually make the sound "lop, lop, lop." I know, it could have been too many hours in the sun.

American Lawn Mower Company 18-Inch Reel Mower
5 people recommended this item
Description
Accoridng to MSNBC, push mowers has increased to 350,000 sold per year, which is 100,000 more sold than 5 years previous. The American Lawn Mower Company believes it's due to eco-conscious consumer.
I have one of these at home. My gardener tends to forget certain portions of my yard, so I had this neat idea of mowing those areas myself. Well, I couldn't figure ouit how to use it, so I gave up and bought a weedeater. I'm so lame. (Hey, it has a safety mechanism that locks. It is tricky to unlock without the instructions manual, which I conveniently lost, of course.)
Still, I love the push mower. It's such a classic. (via msnbc)

solar shoji lantern

Description
Solar powers LED bulbs inside nylon lanterns - which can endure the outdoors on a regular basis. I think these are really great. I am going to order some to see how the solar performs. I've been disappointed with a few solar lanterns in the past, but I think the technology continues to get better everyday. The orange is lovely.
