Description
This is one of my favorite sites to procrastinate on. Go to the Advanced Contests and scroll through the lists until you find a topic that gets your mojo going. Then click through and prepare to be amazed.
Worth1000 is a site that, among other things, sponsors themed Photoshop contests that you can either enter yourself or just enjoy the results of on the site. Categories like "Superhero Day Jobs" will provide plenty of entertainment and, hopefully, inspiration for playing with your own photos.

Alltop

Description
Awesome site for keeping up with, well, everything in an efficient way.
Alltop is basically a one-stop shop of content drawn from both typical and not-so-typical sources that is categorized by subject and updates every ten minutes.
"To use the service, simply click on which industry interests you and then drag your mouse over the lists of blogs/articles. A shadow box will appear containing the first paragraph of the blog or article. If it seems relevent, click on the link to go to the corresponding website. You can expect dozens of sources for nearly any industry with dozens more blogs and articles to help you frame your campaign."
__________
From the site:
Purpose
We help you explore your passions by collecting stories about “all the topics” on the web. We’ve grouped these collections — “aggregations” — into individual Alltop sites based on topics such as environment, photography, science, Muslim, celebrity gossip, military, fashion, gaming, sports, politics, automobiles, and Macintosh. At each Alltop site, we display the headlines of the latest stories from dozens of sites and blogs.
You can think of an Alltop site as a “digital magazine rack” of the Internet. To be clear, Alltop sites are starting points—they are not destinations per se. The bottom line is that we are trying to enhance your online reading by both displaying stories from the sites that you’re already visiting and helping you discover sites that you didn’t know existed. In other words, our goal is the “cessation of Internet stagnation” by providing “aggregation without aggravation.”
Q. How do the Alltop sites work?
A. We import the stories of the top news websites and blogs for any given topic and display the headlines of the five most recent stories (except Moms.alltop which has fewer headlines because there are so many feeds). When you place the cursor over a headline, we display part of the story so that you can decide if you’d like to read it. To read the story, click on its title. To go to the home page of the site, click on its domain name.
Q. How often do you update the feeds?
A. Approximately every ten minutes.

MIT OpenCourseWare: Virtually the Entire MIT Curriculum is Available Free Online for Your Use

Description
Seven years ago MIT did something extraordinary and if you haven't heard about it you really should. And you should tell everyone you know.
They put the majority of their audio, visual and class lecture coursework online. Free. For all of us to use. Yes, the same information their students get in class, now direct to our home computers to use as a resource, reference and for personal and professional enrichment. Why? Well read farther down for a message from the President.
The courses cover everything from Architecture to Music to Women's Studies. It's a virtual treasure trove that can be utilized by almost every field. So enjoy and poke around the site. I think it's one of the greatest gifts available online. And free, to boot.
Oh, and they have a companion site geared to high school students.

From the President:
full text: http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2001/ocw.html
"As president of MIT, I have come to expect top-level innovative and intellectually entrepreneurial ideas from the MIT community. When we established the Council on Educational Technology at MIT, we charged a sub-group with coming up with a project that reached beyond our campus classrooms.
"I have to tell you that we went into this expecting that something creative, cutting-edge and challenging would emerge. And, frankly, we also expected that it would be something based on a revenue-producing model -- a project or program that took into account the power of the Internet and its potential for new applications in education.
"OpenCourseWare is not exactly what I had expected. It is not what many people may have expected. But it is typical of our faculty to come up with something as bold and innovative as this, " President Vest commented.
"OpenCourseWare looks counter-intuitive in a market driven world. It goes against the grain of current material values. But it really is consistent with what I believe is the best about MIT. It is innovative. It expresses our belief in the way education can be advanced -- by constantly widening access to information and by inspiring others to participate," said President Vest.
"Simply put, OpenCourseWare is a natural marriage of American higher education and the capabilities of the World Wide Web," he said.

Truth be told, I'm a widget whore.
There are literally hundreds of interesting sites out there that preen and parade around for attention but I can only service so many a day. Enter the Widget.
Give me a widget and I will give you real estate on a cyber page. I will visit your widget, love it, pet it and tend to its garden of delights.
Like Urban Dictionary's Word of the Day widget. Love it. It's in my widget harem.

About Kayak.com:
Kayak is a travel search and booking engine. Unlike Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz — where several of its top execs hail from — the Kayak site does not sell travel directly.
When you request information about a flight or hotel, Kayak searches more than 100 major airline, hotel, and travel sites. From those it can access prices and itineraries on more than 550 airlines and 85,000 hotels — and then Kayak gives users the options of booking directly from the travel supplier of their choice by clicking on a supplier's direct URL, calling the travel provider's tollfree phone number, or booking via Orbitz or Onetravel.com.
The Kayak Advantage:
Kayak co-founder and CEO Steve Hafner says, “We created the site to meet the needs of today’s consumers who are frustrated at having to search multiple sites to find the best deal. With just one click, visitors at Kayak.com will be able to see prices and services in real-time.
"Kayak.com’s reach is so comprehensive that consumers will often find an itinerary on Kayak.com that they may not have found on their own. Not only does Kayak.com provide consumers with more travel options than any other site, but it also gives consumers the freedom to choose where to buy their travel."
