Laughing Gasping by Wet Confetti

First to recommend

Description

The new record from Wet Confetti, whose bassist/singer is Alberta Poon from the cuter-than-cute Frozen Peas Accessories line. The album's produced by Dave Allen from Gang of Four, and the songs and sort of dark and synthy but superdancey at the same time.

Description

I've got issues with Kathleen Hanna, but for some reason I never get tired of Le Tigre's first record. It's superfun and makes me want to make stuff, which is a valuable thing indeed.

Ex Hex by Mary Timony

First to recommend

Description

Mary Timony is maybe my favorite musician of all time. I've seen her play live too many times to count, but I'm guessing I've been to about 20 shows since first seeing her ex-band Helium open up for Sonic Youth in 1996. This is the most garagey, stompiest, hardest stuff she's ever done, but it still has lots of pretty guitar melodies and lyrics that sound like they're straight from some weirdo storybook.

C.Y.S.L.A.B.F. by Mika Miko

First to recommend

Description

Mika Miko - five girls, super-young, crazy-high energy, very prone to shouting - are so one of the most exciting things about L.A. right now. Their record's been out just a little over a month, and already my favorite song ("Capricorinations," an MP3 of which you can hear if you click on the "Shop for this at" link above) has made it to the top 5 most played on my iTunes.

Violence by Helena Kvarnstrom

First to recommend

Description

Helena Kvarnstrom is one of my favorite writers in all of the world. Violence started out as a zine and then became a book published by Lazyline Press; I've read both versions about 100 times each, and I'll probably read them at least 100 more times over the coming years.

Keep Company Owl Sweatshirt

First to recommend

Description

If I had a very favorite painter, it just might be Ashley Macomber (a 20-something L.A.-based artist whose work, according to a recent exhibition, "depict[s] animals painted with an extreme delicacy that exhibits a sincere respect with a tendency toward the baroque"). Match that love with my recently acquired thing for all stuff owl-adorned, and I'm totally crushed out on this Keep Company sweatshirt featuring Ashley's artwork.

Omondieu! flower rings

First to recommend

Description

Wearing Omondieu's flower rings (created by Angela, a ThisNext member) makes you feel like a fairy princess. Once upon a time I had two, then one went away and it so broke my heart.
