Description

When I first heard for MAKU I was so excited about the design, the philosophy, the man behind it all. Alas, it was still early and word had not spread. Now you can get your MAKU fill at Velocity.

What is Maku? Its a great line of outdoor teak furniture that looks amazing. Many people take plantation grown teak and coerce it into ungodly forms. It doesnt take any great amount of skill to make something ugly. Maku furniture looks wonderfully modern and robust enough to take a few storms on the patio - or indoors.

The stuff is sustainably grown, classically assembled, well thought-out and just great!

Flowerpot By Eva Solo

Description

The purpose of good design is to make products that are functional and good to look at. Great design helps even the most helpless achieve otherwise tasks. Now there's hope even for for those who cant seem to keep plastic plants alive.

The Eva Solo Flowerpot consists of two stacking parts. The top is a rather usual flower pot while the one below is filled with water. A nylon wick draws water up (yes, magic) and helps keep the plant watered. Once the glass is running low on water, you know to fill it up with some more. Its that simple.

All four colors (chalk white, dark grey, ice blue and khaki) are available in two sizes.

Description

Most of I find at Brocade Home is a little too traditional for my taste, even with the fun splashes of color. Still, Its not impossible to find something yummy. Their outdoor upholstered circles (occasional chairs / tables) are just too much fun! The two prints come in three sweet colors (ice blue, pistachio and walnut). The rich pattern on such a simple and playful shape is just the thing to take your patio out of the doldrums! Each circle is 19" high and 17" around. Though its meant for the great outdoors, I'm sure you'll be tempted to take these inside and enjoy them year round.

PLATTA Outdoor Decking

Enjoying summer on a wood deck should be a right, not a privilege... still, many of us live in spaces that couldn't possibly accommodate the luxury of a real wood deck. One way to overcome this problem is to cover that weathered concrete patio or balcony with these posh wood tiles. It might take quite a few 17.75" tiles to cover your entire space, but when the job is done, your drab little space will be transformed into a warm and inviting summer oasis.

IKEA sells each 17.75" real wood tile for $6.99

West Elm sells a smiliar item in a darker color for a lot more.

Havaleena

Havaleena is a great product for people looking to light up the night in style.

The system is sold in a pack of three (a bouquet) units. Each torch can be outfitted with a colored screen to create fun moods. You can attach them to spikes for easy ground penetration and a wooden stand can be used to hold one Havaleena torch.

Three AA batteries power the 1 watt LED light for up to 20 hours of party time. The body is made from anodized grey aluminum and the diffuser is acrylic.

Each bouquet is rather pricey considering the simplicity of the technology, but its still a great buy for the late night eco-conscious design socialite.

Pair Havaleena with rechargeable batteries and you can enjoy a pretty green way to light your evening soiree's.

Eva Solo Gas Grill

Description

This is the utilmate anti-webber gas grill! Its a bit pricy but if you want to complete your modern lifestyle, you need to kick that sputnik-shaped black grill from college into the trash. This is the gas version of the popular charcoal burning model. Its sleek, sexy and its super functional.

Primary Pouf

Description

At first glance you'll wonder whether its soft or hard, foam or concrete, heavy or light.

The Primary Pouf (dont you love that word!) is good in and out of the house - though its rugged construction is best taken advantage of outside. The foam cushion is soft when you park it though firm enough to leave your drink on top of it. Though its concrete-like appearance makes it look heavy, the Pouf is quite light so you can move it around easily.

Available at DWR at slightly out-of-reach prices though, as usual, its design well worth the price.

Blomus Stainless Steel Patio Toch

If you are as frustrated as I am with the selection of patio (tiki) torches you will love this option from Blomus. Made of stainless steel and available with wood or stainless steel posts, these are a must have for anyone who wants to carry their modern style outside of their living room. Priced significantly higher than what you'll find at a home center- you wont be pitching these out at the end of the season.

Blomus also makes a range of other torch items like floating spheres and candle-hurricane-like items.
