The Faces - The Best Rock Band That Ever Was!! - a list by glamazon5

About this list:

I lurve the Faces! They were the best rock band that ever was. Let's face it, good rock music should be played from, errrr let's just say from the male nether regions that rhymes with Rick. And the Faces definitely played from there. Not like these whiny emo bands who sing about their emotions. Who cares! I want to get down and dirty. With the Faces it always sounded like a party and you are always invited (you have to love a band that would actually have a bar on stage).

Faces fanatic and music junkie

Description

I got this for Xmas (I had been lusting after it for quite some time). Let me tell you, if you don't own this and have been on the fence about it. You seriously need it. To be it is an absolute Must Have for any Faces fan.

It's 4 discs. The really cool thing is it was put together by Ian McLagan (the keyboard player). The songs are not in a chronological order, but in an order that he felt flowed well (and it does). There is an awesome version of Maggie May (which is not one of my most favorite songs). My favorite tracks are:

Disc 1:
Too Bad
I Can Feel the Fire (Live)

Disc 2:
Pool Hall Richard,
That's All You Need,
Bad 'N' Ruin (Live),
Around The Plynth
Had Me a Real Good Time
Cut Across Shorty

Disc 3:
Hi-Heel Sneakers/Everybody Needs
Skewiff (Mend The Fuse)
Stay With Me (Live/BBC)
Ooh La La

Disc 4:
The Stealer (Live/BBC)
Love In Vain (Live/BBC)
Borstal Boys

I seriously listen to at least one track off this set every single day. It will make you happy and just want to have a good time. If I could only own one CD (since this is a box set I'm counting it as one CD), this would be it! The best money you will ever spend

Ronnie Wood's Smile: and where it led by Wendy Ellison Mullen

Description

I read almost this entire book in one sitting (I only stopped because I had to get some sleep for work the next day). This is one of the most entertaining books I've ever read. It also deals with one of my favorite people on the planet, Ronnie Wood. This is the story of how the author got throughly and utterly enchanted by one of Ronnie's amazing smiles at a Stones show. That was all it took and she was hooked and over time became an expert on all things Ronnie (her website, slideonron is awesome). She also became evolved in the world of the hard core Rolling Stones fans. This book is the story of her adventures in search of all things Ronnie! I was drawn to this book because of my love of Ronnie, but you don't have to be a Ronnie fan nor for that matter a Stones fan to enjoy this awesome book.

While it's no secret I'm a Faces fanatic, I also love the Small Faces (and truly, if you are a Faces fan, how can you not). Before Rod Stewart came along with his mate Ronnie Wood to the Faces, the Faces were the Small Faces with the fantastic Steve Marriott on lead vocals. His voice was so soulful! This CD is fantastic and covers their entire career.

The Faces - A Nod is As Good As a Wink to a Blind Horse

Description

The Faces played sexy, boozy rock and roll. When the band was together, this album, IMO, was their best. It is awesome from start to finish. One of my top 10 CD's of all time. Some of my fav. tracks include:

Miss Judy's Farm
You're So Rude
Stay With Me
That's All You Need

The Faces - The Final Concert

First to recommend

Description

This was recorded near the demise of the Faces (Ronnie Lane had already left the band at this point) in 1974. The sound quality is not the best but let me tell you it is worth it alone to see Keef play a few songs with these guys. Just the site of Keef and Ronnie circa 1974 makes me dizzy...those hot guitar riffs, all that spiky black hair......hold on while I sit down........OK, I think I've recovered now. Seriously, this is worth owning because there is not much on DVD out there of my fav. band of all time. I wish the live BBC stuff that I recorded from VH1Classic was available on DVD (although the live songs are on Five Guys Walk Into a Bar). The sound and video on that is awesome!

All the Rage by Ian McLagan

Ian McLagan's biography is just fun. It tells his story from the Small Faces, the Faces and beyond. A more entertaining than most rock biography (and I've read a ton of them).

Faces Tee Shirt - Original Artwork by Ronnie Wood

First to recommend

Description

For those of you who only know Ronnie Wood as guitarist extraordinare, you just know a fraction of his talent. He is also an extremely amazing and accomplished artist. I love this drawing that he did of the Faces and I love the Faces (one of my favorite bands ever)! Now you can get this great drawing on a shirt! Wearable artwork, how cool (of course I might cut and sew this to make a tad more fitted and girlie)! How could I not own this? Now you can too!
