Depeche Mode - 101 [Live]

Description

Depeche Mode is the band that I used to like when I was 12, and I still like it now. 101 is the ultimate album for any Depeche Mode fan. In fact, it might be the one of the best live albums ever recorded by any band. It just draws you into it from the first chord and never lets you go.

Carole King - Tapestry [Legacy Edition 2-CD]

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

Carole King is an amazing songwriter and Tapestry is one of those rare albums that doesn't have any weak songs. Pretty much all songs from Tapestry have been covered many times by various artists but noone could deliver them with as much soul as Carole. If I had to choose my favorite song from Tapestry it would have to be 'So Far Away'.

This is the 'Legacy Edition' which means you not only get the original album, but also the 2nd CD which has previously unreleased piano-vocal versions of each song.

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains

First to recommend

Description

IMHO, Sepultura is the best metal band of all time, period. Maybe it's because Sepultura was so popular around the time when I was into thrash and death metal (rebel teen years), but the fact is I still like them. Those Brazilian rockers surely know how to make the music sound as angry, dark, and heavy as it gets. It's a true metal music masterpiece.

Enigma - MCMXC A.D.

First to recommend

Description

Enigma's MCMXC A.D. was their genre-defining album of the early 90s. The music is so pure and free-flowing - great to listen to if you just want to relax and drift away. 'Sadeness' is my favorite song of all time.

Katie Melua - Piece by Piece

First to recommend

Description

Katie Melua has the sweetest voice I've ever heard and she writes her own songs. She's the Carole King of the 2000s. My favorite song from this album is the mood-setting 'Nine Million Bicycles'. Even though the lyrics are not quite correct ("we are 12 billion light years from the edge / that's a guess / noone can ever say it's true / but i know that i will always be with you") - we're actually 46 light years from the edge (of observable universe). But hey, if Katie wants to always be with me, I'm ready to accept the 12 billion number.

Robbie Williams - Greatest Hits

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

Robbie Williams is probably the most prolific British artist of the past decade. Starting with the boyband Take That is the early 90s, he grew into his own in the mid 90s. Not only he is a great singer and songwriter, he's the coolest dude around.

If you've never heard of him before, pick up this Greatest Hits album - it doesn't have a single bad song. Great melodies and cool lyrics all around. My favorites are the weird "The Road To Mandalay" (starts with 'Save me from drowning in the sea, beat me up on the beach'); "No Regrets" (one of the rare pop songs to end with the word 'dead'); and "Rock DJ" (it had the coolest video - just search for it on the net).

High Fidelity - Soundtrack

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

"High Fidelity" is a great movie, but it's soundtrack is perhaps even better. No surprise here, because the movie is about a dude who owns a used record store.

My favorite songs from this eclectic collection are Sheila Nicholls' "Fallen For You" and "Who Loves The Sun" by Velvet Underground. Also check out Jack Black singing "Let's Get It On' and a song named "Lo Boob Oscillator".
