Star Wars Force FX Lightsaber
First to recommend
Description
I admit it- I think being a real Jedi would be one of the coolest things ever. And it is not just so I could use fancy Jedi mind tricks. The lightsabres are awesome too. I got- and love- the double-ended Darth Maul Lightsabre. I know, its the Dark Side and all that but his was def the coolest one of the lot.
The actual dual lightsaber is about 6 feet long, has a progressive blade illumination so it looks sort of like the ones in the movies, and it solidly built. Plus you can break the two light sabres apart into 2 regular lightsabres for in-office duels. (Note: while construction is sturdy, they are not strong enough to really wail on each other w/them, the way my brother and I used to beat up each other w/our lightsabres back in the late 70's and early 80's)
Great management tool for start-up execs as well as a fun, active toy for toddlers who love Star Wars.

Jan Leslie - Bee Cuff Links

Description
I dig cufflinks and I dig bees. (I love honey and I think the whole collective intelligence thing that bees do is just plain cool.)
My wife, Kira, has excellent taste, and she got these Jan Leslie cufflinks for me in silver. (I am not a big fan of gold, plus they are soooo pricey in gold).
Anyway, these are hands-down my favorite cufflinks and I wear them a lot. People often compliment me on them as well. I definitely want to get more Jan Leslie cufflinks. (via KiraGould)

Paul Smith - Striped Cuff Links
3 people recommended this item
Description
Paul Smith combines the best of classic style and British fashion whimsy. I have always been a fan of his stuff and really dig pretty much anything he does w/stripes. So I was very psyched when my wife got me these stripey cufflinks. Cufflinks are one of the few areas where guys can add some bling and color w/out looking like a cheesey moron. I am always surprised that more guys don't wear cufflinks. They help you look more dressed up w/out the hassle of actually having to put on a suit

Tissot T-Touch - Mens outdoor watch
First to recommend
4 people recommended this item
Description
Tissot T-Touch watches are super cool and multi-functional, doing everything from telling time to telling you your altitude and compass bearing. For me the key attributes in a good watch are 1, does it have a good alarm; 2, does it have a good chronograph; 3, does it look cool; 4, can i wear it to a biz meeting; and, 5, most importantly, can it survive on various adventures. The Tissot T-Touch succeeds on all fronts. Plus it has a groovy orange rubber band (orange is my favorite color)

Sid Meier's Civilization IV
First to recommend

Description
Sid Meier's Civilization IV is one great game. A classic of the "god game" genre, Civ4 lets you found and build an empire. You can win Civilization IV thru military dominance, economic/cultural dominance, or just have the high score at the end of the game. Civ4 can be played against the machine or against other people and it is HIGHLY addictive.
Meier's simulation of human history is, for a desktop consumer product, remarkably well thought out and complete. It captures a lot of the macro dynamics of history in a believable way and can teach the willing-to-learn player a lot about resource management, as well as human nature. Civ4 reminds me of some management training sims I played a few years ago that were published by, I think, Harvard Business School, only Civ4 is much more complex.
If you have (vainglorious) fantasies of omnipotence and like high-level strategy and resource allocation puzzles, definitely get a copy of Meier's classic. Civ4 is the most current version for the Mac.

The Atlantic

Description
The Atlantic is one of the few print magazines to which I still subscribe. Having been around for 150 years, The Atlantic has a developed a keen sense of America's history and translates that sense into cogent and readable analysis of today's events. The Atlantic covers politics, culture, media, the arts, technology, and a bit of business. They tend to take a fairly progressive point of view but have certainly been known to be hawkish and/or somewhat conservative in some of their writings. Overall, I highly recommend The Atlantic as a magazine for active, pragmatic thinkers who want to engage in the world today.

Verizon EVDO Wireless Broadband Service
First to recommend
3 people recommended this item
Description
I just got Verizon's Wireless Broadband EVDO service for my MacBook Pro. While Verizon is a company that people often bitch about (frequently w/good reason), their EVDO service really rocks.
No more war-driving for open hotspots or getting charged outrageous day-rates by hotels or Starbucks. W/the EVDO card, my Mac flies along just nicely. While it is true that there are dead-spots w/the EVDO coverage (apparently the EVDO network only covers about 140 million pops- or people- whereas Verizon Wireless' overall network covers about 240 million), it still works plenty good in most places. The real test for me will be while I am in Hawaii for New Year's: if Iget good wireless coverage there, I am going to be one happy guy since it means less time in lame cybercafes and more time to surf, hang w/the family, and get work done in a beautiful setting. Less glamourously, VZW's EVDO will also make my biz travel easier

MacSaber
First to recommend
Description
MacSaber turns your Mac into a lightsaber and lets you unleash your inner Mac-enabled Jedi. Macsaber uses the motion sensors in your laptop to detect when the machine is moving around and then synchs the movements to various cool and bad-ass sounding lightsaber effects. Very empowering ;-)

KCRW 89.9FM
First to recommend
3 people recommended this item
Description
KCRW is hands-down my favorite radio station anywhere. They play a great mix of NPR and PRI (Public Radio, Inc) programming on the talk side, as well as produce a slew of their own terrific talk shows, most notably, Left Right & Center (which is a great podcast in case you can't hear it on the air).
But the real jewel in KCRW's crown is their music programming. KCRW produces a wide range of truly excellent music programming. My favorites include Nic Harcourt's "Moring becomes Eclectic", Nocturna (downtempo/after hours stuff), The Drop (uptempo and funk), Conections (electronica), and Metropolis (more electronica). Unfortunately, they don't currently offer these shows as podcasts which is a huge bummer (and, I suspect, probably because record labels won't let them)
If you like being exposed to a lot of interesting new music, as well as high IQ talk radio, definitely check out KCRW on air or get their podcasts. Since it is subscriber supported, I encourage you to donate to KCRW if you listen to them a lot. I am a KCRW Angel which means I give them a dollar/day for a year. TOTALLY worth it

Pilot Pen ExecuGel - Fine Point
First to recommend
2 people recommended this item
Description
Pilot Pen ExecuGel's use Pilot's gel ink and are super smooth writers. The ExecuGel have a nice heft to them as well, plus I like the design and the cool colors. They have a good professional look w/out a huge price tag (they are about $6/pen plus refills as needed) which is good since I often loose pens.
An essential tool for writing down all those billion dollar ideas and world-changing thoughts, as well as the phone numbers of people you need to call back.
