This classic cooking reference has been revised and spruced up for it's 75 birthday. Personally, I still love my early 1970's edition best, but I might just be swayed by this new and fancy copy.

This is one of those classic cookbooks that nearly everyone's mother or grandmother had. I have two copies from two different eras and love them both. This particular copy has the added advantage of benefitting breast cancer research.

While not exactly a cookbook, this collection of essays from writer Laurie Colwin has lots of recipes tucked in among the stories and anecdotes. Reading them makes you long to leap up and start cooking, which makes it a very effective cookbook in the long run.

This is a cookbook from a now-defunct mini-chain of restaurants in Philadelphia. It has really amazing recipes for salads, coleslaws and quiches and is the book from which I learned to make vinaigrettes.
