ALCiS - pain relief cream

Description

Alcis rocks! I was highly skeptical about the claims made about this stuff when I first heard what tey have had to say. As an avid amateur athlete, I have had my fair share of sports-injuries and have tried myriad unguents, potions, ointments, gels, and mentholated concoctions over the years. So far, I had not found anything that works better than Advil (though arnica is good too) for pain relief.

Then, yesterday, I crash landed on my shoulders while bouldering and totally worked my neck in the process, so much so that I have been walking around w/ice-packs and had a hell of a time sleeping. My friend, Nicole, recommended I try the Alcis and you know what, it really worked. I wish I had remembered to bring some home w/me last night as it would have made sleeping a lot easier w/out a throbbing neck

How to Know God: The Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali

First to recommend

Description

The best, most accessible book explicating Patanjali's famous Yoga sutras. Author Christopher Isherwood does an excellent job of explaining the multi-thousand year old sutras in language and metaphors that make sense to a modern Western reader. Also, the Sanskrit and arcana of ancient Indian/Vedic culture are kept to a minimum so you get the important concepts w/out the mass of historical details that tend to be of more interest to scholars than lay readers.

If you do yoga and want to understand your practice better or have a general interest in what might be the oldest technology/techniques of consciousness, I highly recommend you acquaint yourself w/Patanjali and recommend Isherwood's book as a highly readable and approachable introduction.

lululemon athletica mens yoga boardshorts

First to recommend

Description

I have about 5 pairs of Lululemon's mens boardshorts in various color combinations (mostly black and something else). Lululemon makes great clothes for yoga and I have spent countless hours sweating in their boardshorts during my mysore ashtanga practice.

Lululemon's boardshorts are great because they are super comfortable, the liner wicks away sweat (even when it is pouring out of me), and they are super-stretchy. (one of my pet peeves w/athletic gear is when it somehow constrains me and impacts performance. Lululemon's stuff has never impeded my yoga practice in any way. So I give it a big thumbs up for that (and yes, I know, that Type A stressing over performance in yoga is not so yogic, but at least I know that, right ;-)

Anyway, if you are looking for cool-looking and comfortable shorts to get your endorphin fix in, I recommend Lululemon's

Yogitoes Skidless Mat Towel

16 people recommended this item

Description

I sweat a ton when I do ashtanga, especially when the room is crowded and gets really hot. I love my yogi toes towel because it is thin, light, super-absorbent, and keeps me from sliding off my mat. The little nobbins on it are both cool looking and grippy- lends a nice space-age touch to an old practice. One word of criticism: like many synthetic fibers, the yoigi toes mats can quickly start to smell funky and should be washed after every practice.

NALGENE 32 oz water bottles

9 people recommended this item

Description

These things are must-haves, imho. They are virtually indestructible and carry enough water to keep you hydrated when you are adventuring in the great outdoors. Plus they don't make the water or tea taste funny.

Also great for having at the office or around the house for a handy, spill-proof drinking vessel.
